Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Just got home from a week long vacation which included my cousin's wedding and then a camping trip with my parents and brother. The SVX did the 900 or so miles just great getting 25-28mpg.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Switched it over from Castrol Edge w/Titanium 5w30 w/POS Fram TG filter to Mobil 1 Synth 5w20 w/Mobil 1 EP filter. So far it's stopped it's seep from the oil filter, and is running MUCH smoother than before.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Also fixed the a/c and did a 2 to 1 piece headlight conversion on the outback. Also scored some nice heated black 02' outback limited seats that are getting installed in the SVX.

Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease take lots of photos during the install? My SVX is still in need of new seats, and I had to put my WRX seat project on hold due to a lack of $$$ and a job. Now that I've got both again, I'm ready

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

They fit in and the front tabs mount pretty good but the rear tab towards the console will need cut/new tab welded on. I do have a set of svx rails I was going to use but they wont work on the newer seats but they would on the older stuff pre 99'

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Installed the flywheel/clutch to the engine, assembled the frankenstein shift linkage, and swapped out the rear carrier assembly for one with a correct matching ratio.

Manual transmission goes in next weekend. Followed by hours of troubleshooting, I'd bet.

Needless to say, it's been an entire week of SVX daydreaming.

Have you figured out how to do the wiring for the reverse lights, neutral safety switch, and clutch pedal switch? There is a pair of wires by the shifter that need to be jumpered as well.

Using the old auto wiring harness, and new plugs for the reverse and NSS, you can make a little wiring harness so that when you're putting the actual trans in, it's mostly plug-and-play.

What kind of pedal setup do you have? Hyrdo or cable?

Why not just remove the shift lock unit? Then you don't have to jumper the wires.

I relocated my gas selector switch. I used the coin holder insert.

Wiring is definitely not my strong suit, but I'm pretty confident I'll be able to sort it all out. I collected parts for about year before taking on this project, so I have a few of everything.. like most Subaru owners. Spare harnesses, spare transmissions.. all that good stuff.

I've been using a print out of Huck's guide, Tom's guide thread, as well as a few threads I've been able to find on here, including the one you provided.

I got a little rough with my clutch switch and it broke while I was trying to mount it to the pedal. So I may decide to use the old 'remove the inhibitor switch and set it to neutral' method for now until I can replace it.

I had planned on taking my time and doing this conversion over the course of a year or so. A couple of months in, and I'm tired of looking at the car on jack stands in my garage, and I want to take my WRX off the road to overhaul the suspension. So I'm throwing the SVX together so I can enjoy it for a bit, and then I'll take my time and correct all the little stuff and make it the project/Sunday car that it was originally meant to be.

I'm using a cable clutch pedal box.

Funny story about that.. Using the search engine on this forum, I was able to determine the history of the parts for my swap:

I purchased a "swap kit" from "Bshade" in Lancaster from a car he parted out. He had purchased the car from "Marlettpat", who had it swapped by "Hocrest", who used a kit that was put together by "Tomsvx".

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Got the pass. side seat fixed up to fit, just need to wire it for heat and notch the LR tab a cm. Also going to mount the heat switches above the ebrake handle. The seats are also dirty still as I got them covered in mud.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Seth, how is the lowest seat height in comparison to the stock seat? I know you likely won't have an issue, but for us taller people, IIRC any other Subie seat sits up higher unless you swap seat rails. Correct?
