Re: "How To" for power Mode switch addition
Australia/NZ model has a similar TCU to the UK model. Pin A4 activates "Economy" mode not Power mode.
If you want a power mode switch for that, you have to chip the TCU. I did a few of these for...

Re: Memory dump of ECU
The trick is to get the file to the right size.
The address space of the chip is 64K from 0x0000 to 0xFFFF. The ROM is 32K and stored at address 0x8000 to 0xFFFF. I normally download the 32K ROM...

Re: SVX at house of marbles
Hi Wyn,
I got the manual out to scan it, but there isn't really anything useful.
It's got removal instructions, basically disconnect the pipes and unbolt the mounting bracket. Nothing that...

Re: SVX at house of marbles
Hi Wyn,
We do remember you from the RAF Cosford meet. That was a really good day out.
I don't read this forum as much as I used to, but still log in occasionally to see if anything is...

Re: Gearbox failed again ?
Thanks for the advice.
Fluid is OK.
I jacked it up and had a look. None of the shafts are turning, so probably not an axle. If I turn a front wheel by hand then the one on the other side turns...

Gearbox failed again ?
I drove home from work at lunchtime and noticed that something wasn't right with the car. There was a very slight almost imperceptable low-frequency vibration. Most people wouldn't even have noticed...

Re: ID my ECU please
That looks like a USDM ECU (label D1 or M7), not a JDM (label D2).
The JDM ECU doesn't have the little daughterboard with the atmospheric pressure sensor on it. The TSB rom chip is typically only...

Re: Does EvoScan work?
The cables should be interchangeable.
All the SVX compatible software will work with either cable.

Re: Does EvoScan work?
Yes. It works fine on OBD1 SVX. ie. All non-US models. US models from 92-95.
If you are having trouble, look at the troubleshooting section on my website. You may have the 92 problem. Verify this...

Re: Climate Control Unit Caught Fire
I managed to get one from a breaker.
Unfortunately it's faulty. Whatever you set the temperature to, it counts down to 18 degrees. But I think that may be fixable, when I get the time to investigate...

Climate Control Unit Caught Fire
I was out for a drive in the black 92 last week when smoke started pouring from the dash around the radio. I quickly pulled over, grabbed the tool kit from the boot and disconnected the...

Re: 4ws problem
Are you sure it's not working? It doesn't work below 40km/h and it's quite subtle unless you are really chucking the car about. You need to do about 60+kmh and turn it hard and fast to really feel it...

Re: SVX cake
Yeah. The headlights are jelly sweets with bright white LEDs behind them. We pushed drinking straws through the cake as conduits to run the wires. :D

SVX cake
Our son Rajesh had his 3rd birthday a couple of weeks ago. He loves cars, especially the SVX, and he loves cake too. So we decided to make him an SVX cake.

Re: Memory dump of ECU
On a separate note. A member here emailed me some evidence that Subaru knew about "the 92 problem" and supplied an adapter along with the SSM2 to clean up the signal. Have a look at these pictures:...

Re: Memory dump of ECU
I came across this recently. Looks like late 1980's vintage. Probably the diagnostic tool for the old L-series cars. I haven't tried it on my car yet, but it looks like it just reads and writes byte...

Re: Select Monitor (ssm1/OBD1) USB Cable
Sounds dubious to me.
The ECU requires a 5 volt TTL signal. Somehow you need to convert the USB signal to the TTL signal. The normal way to do this is to use a special USB to TTL cable. These are...

Re: SSM for OBD1 and OBD2 SVXs
Awesome work Tony. Well done.
I wish you had been here back in 2008 when Nomake Wan and I were experimenting with the OBD1 cars.
Would you mind if I posted your definition files on my website?...

Re: JDM AWD set-up and 4WS
It is next to impossible, but it can be done. A member on this forum has done it twice already. But it has to be a very specific model of SVX and it is a very expensive and time consuming process...
