Best suby or equivalent??
Looking for a new daily driver come spring and am entertaining a new suby. Currently really liking the new GMC canyon diesel but also thinking S5 for something a little more sporty. Legacy and imps are on my radar but I dunno. Thoughts?

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
New or used? If you want a sport-cruiser I think the Spec B's are as good as it comes (I'm a bit biased though), but they pulled the plug on that model in 2009. To be honest nothing in the Subaru stable interests me right now. STi is too immature and everything else too generic. I'd love to pick up a 335d and have some fun with it but I'll probably be selling my automotive soul with my next DD to save money for a kit plane. A friend is shopping 335is's right now. I didn't know anything about them beforehand but it's an interesting model. Basically a 335i with all of the extra M3 parts that were still left when Beemer revised the M.

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
Like mentioned, knowing new or used is important, but having a price or budget is more fun to work with.

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
I'm in the market of a new-ish car. Ive got my eye on a 2013 G37s. Relatively low miles (36,000) and they are asking 16,500. Sounds like a good enough deal to me.

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
Max budget is roughly 40k. New or used gotta be the right deal. I want AWD or 4wd but I don't want another BMW because they are all very boring overpriced computers with no real driving pleasure. My old m5 was the last of the really good beemers. I've driven 335ds and the fuel economy stinks plus the cars are just too ugly imho
I would love it if spec b cars were still around but alas... We cannot have everything Tom |

CPO Lexus, something with an "F" in the name. Drive it until the wheels fall off. Put the savings in a Lotus Elise fund.

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
You can still find a CPO Tribeca if you wanted an SUV.

kind of a combo of two of my favorite cars - the SVX and a Porsche 928. not as cool-looking as either, but decent looks. got it 2 years old CPO with 27k miles for almost half of what it cost new. look for an xS (x=AWD, S=sport package ... you get a LOT with the sport package - big brakes, sport suspension, sport seats with adjustable upper & lower bolsters, 19" wheels, and more). not disappointed with the handling coming from an Evo MR. good highway cruiser - i don't get the best mpg (~18), but i'm all city/suburban traffic. rated at 25mpg highway. also available in 4-door or convertible flavors, if that's your thing. ![]()

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
We've been toying with the idea of a new Jag. Possibly an XE or an F-Pace.

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
I'd been thinking a lot about a Audi A5 coupe MT as my next car.

Re: Best suby or equivalent??
You can get a lot of car for $40k if your open to the used market.
The hardest part is satisfying the need for AWD/4WD. That puts the Audi in front but I wouldn't recommend them unless you don't plan on keeping it for any amount of time. The Infiniti has the value for money and checks most of your wishlist. In the same breath I will toss Volvo into the mix, T60 R/Polestar. Not very sexy to some but it has AWD, is safe and has a nice interior. If it was me, I would forgo the AWD/4WD requirement and take a hard look at the CTS-V ![]() |
