head gasket
Hello gentlemen,
My head gasket has officially given me the finger so I'll be replacing that during my winter break. I just need a list of the parts that I need to but before I even start the project. Don't want to and can't wait on it, so I want everything to be ready for me to finish in a day or two. So I'd appreciate if someone could give me a list of all the gaskets and misc parts I'd need, or I'd better replace when the engine is out. My heads might be warped so I'll get that to a machine shop as well. What I know I'll need: -head gaskets -engine mounts -valve cover gaskets (leaking bad) -Rear knock sensor (throwing the occasional code) -spark plugs Thank you redlightningsvx -separator plate -rear main seal -whatever you guys add timing belt and water pump have been replaced less than 10k ago. Also I'm willing to pay someone in exchange for their phone number for me to call/text them if I hit any quick problems. Thank you guys in advance

Re: head gasket
Exhaust gaskets, intake gaskets, sparkplug hole gaskets and valvecover bolt gaskets to go with the valvecover gaskets. There are tons of little gaskets that you will come across. There is a main engine gasket set from subaru that has them all and comes out cheaper than getting every gasket you need separate.

Re: head gasket
While you have the intake manifold off replace each and every vacuum hose under and on the intake manifold!
Not all of them have to be genuine Subaru parts, but some of them, like the PCV valve hose really need to be genuine. Check the knock sensors for cracks, if they have cracks, they will fail. The PCV valve is like $3.00. Nuff said. I have some O-rings that you can use to replace your hard and dried out I.R.I.S. valve NOT AVAILABLE O-RING for like $3.00 plus shipping. Since you will have the engine removed its a great time to replace the two heater hoses. I have replaced some lately after coming close to FRYING my 263k Pearlie engine because of a 1/8" cut in one of those hoses. 3' of strait hose can replace both heater hoses for like $9.00. Please replace those water pipe hoses that are also under the intake manifold on the drivers side for the same reason. When they burst it can get bad very quickly.

Re: head gasket
head bolts....the head bolts are not re-useable. The head bolts also have gaskets on them (which will be included in your overhaul gasket set).

Re: head gasket
I already purchased everything. The gaskets are here, and there are sooooo many of them. I have no idea where half of them go...
I have tests this coming week, will probably do it next weekend. Longassname, thanks for the info. Thanks a lot guys.

Re: head gasket
I saw you had asked why you can't re-use the head bolts. I'm guessing you already found the answer but just to be safe cause I don't want you to do all that work for nothing....They are torque to yield bolts. Torque to yield bolts by definition have already been brought to yield when they were first used so they can't be reused. If you reuse them they just continue stretching and your brand new head gaskets fail shortly there after. Anytime you see instructions that tell you to torque to a low setting, then loosen, then turn x degrees, then pat your head, then rub your belly, and turn x degrees more....you have torque to yield bolts.
