Re: studs breaking off
you might like to check what torque wheel nuts are meant to be tightened to.

Re: studs breaking off
I've been cranking mine down to 75 for a good while, and if that was too much, my studs would be gone for sure - I changed my wheels more than 20 times last year.
"80 ftlbs not even"... Are you using a torque wrench? Please say that you're not using an impact gun!

Re: studs breaking off
How many turns of the nut does it take to install the nut fully onto the shaft with the wheel installed?
Our stock wheel nuts turn about 15.5 turns to fully seat against our stock wheels. Whats a life? Ideally you want 12mm of engagement for a 12mm diameter bolt/stud/nut. It takes 9.6 turns to have a nut fully engaged. If your wheel nuts take fewer turns it puts more stress on the engaged threads. Are you using a capped nut, or an open nut? An open nut will allow water and salt to enter easier than a capped nut. BTW, stock is 69-83 ft/lb.

Re: studs breaking off
Put anti seize on the threads when you replace the nuts. This makes it easier to remove.

Axle nuts, wheel nuts, pinch bolts, you kind of want them to stay tight.

Re: studs breaking off
Are you tracking the car or driving it like you stole it all the time? Bigger rims put more stress on hub parts and in turn on the studs. If you're tracking the car, I would expect studs to break with such big rims. Especially if they're the wrong offset.

Re: studs breaking off
Follow OT's suggestions. You should not be breaking studs off if you're getting the right amount of thread engagement at the torque you say you're using.

Re: studs breaking off
Is it safe to assume that you're not using the stock lug nuts?

Is it safe? You're talking to me? Is it safe? Is what safe? Is it safe? I don't know what you mean. I can't tell you something's safe or not, unless I know specifically what you're talking about. Is it safe? Tell me what the "it" refers to. Is it safe? Yes, it's safe, it's very safe, it's so safe you wouldn't believe it. Is it safe? No. It's not safe, it's... very dangerous, be careful.

Re: studs breaking off
I think the problem is more serious than just the lugs break when you take the nuts off if you had a flat tire. I would be concerned to drive the car with that setup. The stress on the lugs could possibly even cause them to break while you are driving. I would get rid of those wheels.
