Today I am searching for a replacement of the replacement driver side heated mirror that went missing after a particularly nasty roommate moved out.

I am contemplating buying a Class Glass hood , checking around for new or used electrically-controlled power steering pumps , getting a tally on driver's side fenders since my body shop apparently didn't order one , and trying to figure out how to access the connection in the steering column which prevents the horns, cruise, and SRS from working.

What else? Right, I need to remember how to repair my automatic shoulder belt. I cranked it all the way back manually but it just retracted again.

Remove the Air bag (4 T-30 or T40 security bolts (the ones with a hole in the center)), remove the steering wheel. Investigate the "clock spring" and connectors in the round plastic container.

I am looking only for SVX parts.

That's what you meant, right? Maybe I mean electronically variable, I was never really clear on how the steering systems vary.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Ah, gotcha. Thought you might have meant an electric powered hydraulic pump.

CAUTION! Disconnect the battery for at least ten minutes before you unplug ANY SRS yellow plugs or removing the airbag.
And secure the steering wheel so that it does not spin freely if you disconnect it from the rack.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Had the SVX out for a spell of chores while the Outback was in for a new exhaust pipe back of the cat. I cracked the joint plowing through a frozen snow berm at the foot of the driveway two days previous. Parts ordered same day work completed by noon on Friday
Well, the SVX needed a photo op as well as a monthly run so over to F.A.G. Aerospace building for an unmistakable multi-message Winter photo. Washed and put away in garage until next month.
Cheers, guys.

Good advice. Battery has been disconnected for months.
Never thought about the securing the wheel. getting it straight again sure is a pain in the rear.

If you disconnect the steering column from the rack the wheel can spin, unwinding the clock spring, resulting in the snapping/breaking of said clockspring.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Finished some work on our clear corners and rear center lights.

Removed the orange cup from inside the JDM clear corners and sanded and clear coated the lens using Sylvania headlight restorer. Photo attached. We will be using a bi-color leds (white and orange) for the bulb.

Partially de-badged a spare rear center light assembly. Also sanded and clear coated the lens the same as the clear corners. Photo attached. We made our own internal "SVX" decal though you can find better ones from Retroroo http://www.indysworld.com/decals/. Photo attached below

We also hope to do the same to the rear brake and side rear side marker lenses sometime
