Actually, I'd venture that might have been in the Cheap, Mass-Produced, Domestic Beer sub-category, not best overall. As to trouble with Subaru turbos, it's not likely a blind incident report thing, as their frequency of repair surveys break down into numerous categories, from engine major, engine minor, drive train, exhaust, right down to the audio system. More likely they don't have enough respondents to reach a statistically meaningful conclusion. I recall a year or two when they offered no reliability projection for the Baja due to "insufficient data." dcb |

Re: Subaru is #1!
I agree but I do disagree. You hear about sti people busting them but I hear about a lot more of the soccer moms in the Outback Turbo more than anything.
Hence the reason I have a slow 2.5

Guy across the street has 3 Subarus. 2 outbacks, one turbo, and a Forester Turbo. Each with over 100,000 miles and no problems yet.

Sorry, that would not be the case. It is the best beer marketed in the US says they. I even think it was the winner 3 years in a row.

That type of beer all tastes the same to me. Much prefer a craft beer or even just a decent ale. As for Subarus my brother just traded his 2002 WRX in, it had 180K and never had an issue (except for the clock in the dash breaking) he never even had to put in a clutch. However my Mom's 2004 Outback had a headgasket issue at 125K, and had a the ECU go bad at 80K, so some mixed results. I still want a Subaru for my next daily driver.

Agreed. I was thinking about Mike when I posted my previous statement but I did not relay that on here.
What the hell is wrong with Old Mud? I like "Beast" myself though.

Re: Subaru is #1!
Had a look at the new CR over the weekend. They gave the 2012 Impreza a glowing review and named it the top pick among small sedans. Poor noise isolation was the only complaint. Notably, they recorded 27 mpg overall, in real-world driving, with a CV transmission. Price as tested was <$22,000; don't know to what trim level that equates.
As to reliability ratings, only the Forester scored "much better than average." Impreza and Legacy, "better than average." WRX/STi (and as I recall, Tribeca): Average. dcb |

Re: Subaru is #1!
Subaru shows the CVT as having a "6-speed manual" mode. How does that work?
They brought a CVT to market in the 80s, in the Justy. That is, they tried. I believe those had reliability issues. dcb |

Re: Subaru is #1!
It pretends to have gears. It's not the same... It just gets the job done for when you need a bit lower gearing towing something or you want engine braking for some reason (I'm sure there are real-world examples, but I haven't found one yet). Absolutely no use for it in daily driving. If you want to go fast, then flooring it will put it in the right gearing to stay at the RPM that makes optimal torque. Shifting it manually will only make it go slower.
