Tire Fitment
I know that 225/45R17 tires are a good option in place of the 225/50R16's Speedometer reads almost identical.
I was asked whether a 235/45R17 or 245/45R17 tires would work. Something about wanting to fill up the wheel openings a little more. Has anyone done it or has suggestions or advice? Here are the calculations Using OEM 225/50R16 tires, and your speedo reads 65 mph... 225/45R17 tires will read 65.3 mph 235/45R17 tires will read 66.23 mph 245/45R17 tires will read 67.15 mph

John,
I have had 245/45/17s on the Claret for quite a while now. But its a 4.44 so with the gear advantage I'm not worried about hurting the transmission. On my white XT6, the day I installed taller tires the lock up TQ blew out.

One thing I would do is take the car for a spin with a GPS speedo (smartphone app) onboard and see just how far out the car's speedo is. My SVX reads faster than true speed, so a taller tire would actually make my gauge more accurate.

Sorry, I misspoke. My speedo reads faster that I'm actually going. 100 KPH on the gauge is around 93 on GPS.

Don't forget to also compare them against the '97 tire size of 215/55R16. Then the 235/45R17 is almost identical. I run 235/45R17 and the speedometer is pretty dead on with the GPS.
