Re: The Revival of a former parts car

Remove the glove box and you'll have access to it. The glove box is held in by screws and a few 10mm bolts. There are a lot of screws and bolts but it comes out pretty easily and everything is obvious. First take off the door by unscrewing the hinge on the bottom and taking off the arms that hold it up. Disconnect the arms from the door, using the little tabs on them. Once you get the door off, you start taking off the inside of the glove box. Just keep unscrewing and unbolting things until it comes out, there are a lot of bolts so keep looking, you'll keep finding new ones.

Once that's out you'll find the Security module behind there on a bracket bolted to the crash bar (a long thick bar that goes from side to side across the whole front of the car). If you just want it to not work, you can just unplug it, you don't have to remove it. If you want to get an aftermarket alternative, I'd ask SVXdc if he makes an adapter for it (he makes a great radio adapter). His site is here: http://ae64.com/Ordering.htm and he's also a member, so you can PM him.

There's a lot of modules back there, the one you're looking for is black plastic housing with a little black wire (the antenna) dangling out of it and one big plug in it. It might say security module or something on it but I don't remember. The other black plastic module back there is the one that makes the chime noise when you open the door with the key in. It has holes for a speaker in it and it's smaller. If you want you can remove the speaker from that little module while you're there.

Note: On 94+ cars with a passenger airbag, the security module is in a different spot, under the rear deck behind an access panel where it can be accessed from inside the trunk. Where the automatic seatbelt controller was in the earlier cars. Waaaaaay easier to get to.
