Assembled assembly: Question for the Crafty
Let's say that oh, hypothetically you're driving along, and you shift up a gear and the engine that you can see through your hood (you know, if you have one) pops a little up and to the right, and when you get home, you notice that there are no bolts in the driver's side engine mount going to the block like there are supposed to be.
Not that that's happened to anybody. Is it possible to replace that rear bolt without removing (or even lifting!) the engine? I'm sure the answer to this puzzle will come in handy for someone someday. You know, if this ever happens.

Re: Assembled assembly: Question for the Crafty
If you didn't have that hole, you wouldn't need the bolts because the hood would hold everything in place.
I've heard that you can get at it by jacking the engine up a bit. Still wouldn't plan on it being easy to get to...

Re: Assembled assembly: Question for the Crafty
One would think that has sti mounts. How do you rip one of those?

Three per side. PITA to install. Much easier with a stick shift.

Re: Assembled assembly: Question for the Crafty
I think even if you can get to the holes, you wouldn't be able to get them to line up perfectly without jacking up the engine a bit and removing or loosening the motor mount to crossmember nut to give you some wiggle room.

Re: Assembled assembly: Question for the Crafty
It does have Group N mounts, and they're not torn (to my knowledge). I did manage to get the front bolt in, but the location of any other escapes me. I'll have to get this beastie in the air and see what I can see.

Re: Assembled assembly: Question for the Crafty
and atleast on the STi you could install the engine mounts in the car. Requires a flex head gearwrench IMO as even if its possible with a normal wrench it would take a day and night to get the bolts in.
I was going to recommend the cusco mounts over the GpN, but I see the price has gone through the roof. |

I guess when you blast off the line on a regular basis with bolts that are properly anti-seized (thank you, Tom!) this sort of thing should be expected!
