Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Stocked up on oil for the Legacy. With a commute of 130 km (80 miles) per day I buy in bulk.

The oil in the car is going in for analysis to see what sort of change intervals I can get away with. If I can get 12-15,000 km per oil change one barrel should last me 18 months.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I replaced the o-ring at the base of the oil filler neck.....

... do you guys know if the seal on the filler cap itself can be bought separately or do I have to order the whole cap? It feels a bit hard and it seems the small oil leak I thought was the cam cover corner actually come from either the filler neck base o-ring or the cap seal.

How much savings over buying quarts or gallon jugs?

Not sure if you have junk yards in Finland but you can use a cap from any suby.

edit: almost any 1990's and up suby.

I got the bucket on sail for $127 so it worked out to about $6.75/liter. A normal 5L jug costs close to $50, so $10/L. The bucket should be good for 3 oil changes + top ups.

Took the car in to get the brand spanking new steering pump installed. On the way I remembered my $700 radiator leaks. Not sure if I want to try to repair it or just get another one.

What method did you use to remove the orange cup from inside the JDM clear corners?

If you used the oven method what temperature and how long?

I've wanted to do this for a long time, BUT since the JDM corners are not exactly growing on trees I'm afraid to mess them up!

The "bi-color leds" are actually called Switchback's.
Will you be using 60 or 120 leds?

Brothers hot air gun (used to heat shrink RC airplane wing plastic) and very SLOW twisting pressure with a wide blade screwdriver and a 1" metal spackle blade to prevent distorting the black plastic. There is a "how to" some where and Smallcars has instructions (don't forget the metal pins). The cups came out easily (memory fails from when we removed them a bit back, twist lock? held in by the bulb reflector?)

Don't remember on the LEDs (they are on the oem corners now and in winter storage. Plenty bright in ant case.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I used a propane torch. put it on "very low", heat up the cup till it's mushy, jab a pair of needle nose pliers thru it, twist and pull it out. No need to take the lens apart.

I just wait for Advance Auto sales. They usually have deals like 5 quarts of synthetic with an oil filter for $20-25. I stock up for the year on all my cars. I also have a valve drain plug on all my cars, it makes oil changes a breeze.

Had my brand-spanking new steering pump installed, the guys said it didn't change the noise much. It seems the previous pumps may have corrupted my steering rack.
Sourced a clockspring.
Still looking into radiators. Want to get a cheap OEM replacement while I figure out if my PWR can be repaired.

Still waiting for Tomfiles to come out of hiding. Anyone heard from him?

Does Nate have one because the dealer can't get me any and my mechs aren't having much luck either.

Also I sent ya 2 PMs regarding the hood.
On Monday I will check on shipping to Washington.
