Re: Bontrager Works 22mm rear sway bar kit

I had that same noise also. It got a bit better when I changed out the joints on the endlink on the side that was a lot more noisy. Sounds like I would imagine a slightly bad strut top mount would sound I guess.

Re: Bontrager Works 22mm rear sway bar kit

I'd be interested in new end links if they are less noisey than the ones that came with the bar. Thanks Nevin.

I didn't notice any new noises? Could it have to do with GCs and bushing replacements?

Not all cars get the noise.
It has nothing to do with the bar or the bar mounts.
Some of the end links develope some slight play wich may or may not transfer into the car.
I am sure a different end link will still deliver the handeling improvement without the noise.

Re: Bontrager Works 22mm rear sway bar kit

I have no intention of ever removing this bar from my car. Unless there comes along a 24mm bar!

We'll run into one another sooner or later. There are a few other svx's in greenville. I see them from time to time. Met another owner on the street a few weeks ago and we had a nice chat at a gas station. Showed him how to drill for a spoiler he had bought on ebay. Still waiting to see if he shows up here.

Re: Bontrager Works 22mm rear sway bar kit

Is there some rule of thumb on how tight you make the end links? I went by the photo and left about a 1/2" of thread showing. I only get noise on hard bumps.

Re: Bontrager Works 22mm rear sway bar kit

Are you talking about the length of the endlink or the bolts that attach it to the knuckle and bar? Regardless, neither will have any effect on the noise we're talking about. The play is in the actual joint of the endlink and cannot be tightened away.

Re: Bontrager Works 22mm rear sway bar kit

I was referring to the length of the endlink. See post #75. It looks like you tighten the length down all the way. I didn't.

Re: Bontrager Works 22mm rear sway bar kit

Wouldn't make a difference with the noise, but the two sides should be about the same unless you want the bar pre-loaded to one side. As long as they aren't going to contact anything else, then it doesn't matter beyond that.

I am to believe that Nevin, the mad scientist, is in the laboratory seeking a solution to the current endlink issue, yet fighting the urge to not hasten his genius!
