How much is a 92 AWD SVX in good condition worth?

Hi,

I did not know what forum to put this in -- since it is about pricing a car for sale, it seems that the "for sale" forum is the best fit -- please let me know if it should go somewhere else.

I have a friend with an 1992 AWD SVX LS that is trying to sell it and we are trying to figure out what to set the price at. The car is in excellent running condition (no tranny issues), and the body and interior are immaculate (no rust). It has about 150K on it and has been well maintained. The car is in the Portland, Oregon area.

The issue is figuring out a fair price.

KBB and Edmunds seem to be pricing these like they aren't desirable semi-rare vehicles -- just early 90's junk, which is why I thought I would turn to you folks to get an idea of what you've bought and sold them for. I have seen both real low prices (like $2500), and high prices like 10K mentioned. What can on really expect to get for these unique cars.

Some additional questions...

1. Is there a lot of difference between the value of the 2WD and AWD versions? If so, how much difference?
2. What difference in value is there between the LS and LSi versions?

I personally have a red '94 (correction -- I mistakenly said '92 originally) 2WD LS that I am working on (it has the dreaded tranny issues) but otherwise is in immaculate condition (body, interior and mechanical ). It is red and has about 160k miles. It's also in the Portland, OR area. What will it be worth after the tranny is fixed?

There is a difference. But let me point out some issues. First off it can't be a 92 and have 2wd (FWD). You also say red and 92 which does not work as that color wasn't offered.

But back to the point of value. It will depend heavily on condition and finding the right person to buy it. Pictures will help assist but just because one person feels it should sell for that much does not mean it will. Since I live close to you (within reason) I don't mind helping or answering question just PM me.

Welcome to the site. If you are going to list a SVX here for sale, please use the template that is in the forum which lists all of the information that is needed to make a sale here.

I have kept track of the SVXs that have been sold and the prices that they go for. It is more of a function of mileage and some other conditions of the car that makes the price. The SVX that you gave information on would go for about $3,000. I would have to know more about it before I could give a more accurate price. Tires, glass, paint, dings, records, etc. would be needed. If I got more info and some pictures, I could give a better estimate of what it might sell for.

A friend of mine has his 92 Pearlie for sale and his has 111,000 miles, perfect interior and excellent paint. The tires are good, and runs very strong and tranny is good too. He is asking $4,500, and it may go for $4,000 up to $4,500.

whoops, as was pointed out, the second svx I mentioned had the wrong year -- it is actually '94. I corrected the original post.

Did you buy it recently? I remember seeing one for sale that was red with tranny problems if I remember correctly. Saw it on the portland craigslist.

I think 2500-3000 is realistic. There just doesn't seem to be any collector value or people even looking for there particular cars.
I paid 2100 for my 92 lsl had round 175k condition was pretty decent with no major problems. Bought it in portland.

For a 92 with that mileage clean and straight, decent original paint, I would price it around $3300 and expect to get between $2700 and $3000. A faded roof, peeling clear coat, rust, mechanical issues or a beat up interior will lower the price accordingly.

Just for example/compairson I, an experienced SVX mechanic have a 1992 Dark Teal LS-L AWD SVX with no rust, 162 k, and recently
(in the last few weeks) $5000.00 of repairs.
The car has a rebuilt transmission, new inner tie rod ends, new rear brake lines, rear brakes, new Subaru left rear wheel bearing, new knock sensors,
basicly everything mechanical that an SVX needs.
What do I expect to get out of it?
$3100.00.
I would have MUCH further ahead to give it away and charge for the repairs.

I know people who can/do buy a clean SVX for, lets say $800.00, and then spend $6000.00 to make it right.
I am not saying they are wrong, He ended up with a really fine SVX with a rebuilt transmission, new head gaskets, tune up, some upgrades, the works!

If one of my SVXi with a clean body, dropped an engine or transmission,
as a mechanic I would not hesitate to replace the engine or transmission, the following weekend!
If the body is solid, you can drive them forever!

I agree Tom. Many people have done similar repairs and spent more than the car is worth. It is more than that. We do this for the love of the car. Others who have the problems just part them out. That is why there are less and less out there.
