DROVE IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 6 WEEKS.

Whoo hooooo!

The viscous coupler was basically trashed and shift fork broke, shrapnel basically totaled the entire transmission, even the inner walls of the case.

Bought a new used trans, it also had a bad coupler, however most of it was salvageable.

Bought an 05 series LGT gear swap kit, new coupler, new transfer gears and bearings, had that installed along with a Competition Clutch stage 2 package, Dayle's silicone radiator hoses, and a used drive shaft that inexplicably fits without modification. The mech whom also owns the shop I went to sewn everything up and it shifts normally now, though I kinda liked having it catch near the floor. For some reason the intake note on start-up is different. Exhaust note is changed slightly as expected since the gearing is different. I feel the LGT gearing is more suited to this car, though we will see how it holds up.

It's been idling rock solid, though it vibrates a bit, feel as if a motor mount is bad. Will have to do some investigating this weekend.

Now it's time to finally save up for those Konis.

Curious what diff gearing you have?
I am assuming the legacy gearing you changed was the actual 1st, 2nd, etc.

WRX - LGT
3.545 3.166
1.947 1.882
1.366 1.296
0.972 0.972
0.738 0.738

I bought the 02 WRX install kit here.

I find myself shifting into 3rd around 38-40mph instead of 31-32. Feels less strung out.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I got 4 SVXi out of storage yesterday and got one of them washed... I need to go get the 97 washed today... Lots of little kitty paw prints and dust but glad to have them back. Maybe I'll get the rust free doors swapped on the 97 as well.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Its been an all Subaru, all the time weekend

Because the SVX wasn't ready I took the Outback for Auto Cross - advanced driver training, yesterday and today. Yup, all those Sti, WRX and Legacy GT guys looked at me like I was a little crazy. The old girl and the old guy (me) performed amazingingly well.
We got 4 clean runs on a bonfide slalom course this afternoon and managed to shave 5.5 seconds off from first to last run and turn in a a very respectable time for the heaviest, most unruly car there. Let me tell you it was a rush, and the Outback did things that I never thought it could do, with very little complaint. Its amazing what a few extra pounds of pressure in the front and a few less pounds in the back on the Dunlop Signatures did to help her cornering.

Went to deliver the new sound equipment to the SVX tonight and check all the new metal and welding. My son-in-law created a minor masterpiece, a touch more sanding and she will be ready for paint. It would appear her coming out party at the Subaru meet on the 14th is on schedule.
The decision has been made to lower her, any assistance from you guys would be appreciated as to which kit and where to get it.

Excellent question, appearance only I think, my restoration team, now turned mod specialists thinks it would look real cool.

Its open to discussion, why wouldn't I?

This is a free flowing situation here, there is even discussion of a stainless custom exhaust mod. Larger pipes off the engine into new cats.

Why not? It depends on where you live and the condition of the roads. You drag like crazy.. trust me.

Dealer shoud be done with the Claret's swap today. Just waiting on tax return to go pick it up.

BTW, when I shipped the engine I got the weight at the local dump with my truck--empty and full weights. The difference (weight of engine and pallet) was 460 lbs. Does that sound right? I thought that seems a bit much especially with the way I was able to move it all around by myself it didn't feel that heavy. Maybe I just don't know my own strength

Drove it quite a bit, and took about 6 minutes of in-car video.

Kudos to anyone who figures out how I mounted the camera.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Gave it a Subaru bath

Wheels don't match on that side. Bent a rim last month, so I threw on an oem till I fix. Tried to fix it last night. Will find out today when I fire up my new compressor.
