Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I drove my SVX to work today. For the first time since it died on the side of the road on my way to work several months ago.

Because yesterday, I finished the alternator upgrade that works perfectly, and fitted the newly-repainted wheels, shod with new tires.

Pictures forthcoming, when I get a chance to process and upload them.

Not so much what I did, rather what some jacka$$ in a motorized wheel chair did as he came down the middle of the road between the two lanes of traffic while we were stopped at a red light and squeezed between me and another car. Then after he scraped down the side of our cars and hit my mirror, he turned back, smiled and continued on.

Sure, you beat an 82 year old man but you draw the line on a guy in a wheelchair!?

I had an old guy in a Toats hat rear end my GL10 in a parking lot, and thought about beating him to death on the spot!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Finally replaced my crank pulley and belts. Easy job with the 4 pronged doodad that stops the crank from turning. (I didn't do it. My mechanic friend did.)

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Not to the SVX but for it . I cleaned the 2 car garage so I can get the SVX 3 motorcycles my wife's car and the snow blower in for the winter , OH and I did do something to the SVX almost forgot . I pulled the inner rear fender well out at the rear wheel well and removed all the dirt behind it. Try it you will be amazed how much is trapped back there . reason for rust forming on the rear 1/4 panel

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

It's been 500 km since the engine rebuild and I brought her back in for a look by the mechanic. There were 3 CEL faults (EGR, O2, and CPS), a small fluid leak, and a 'noise' on acceleration likely from a loose resonator or exhaust.

Picked her at the end of the day and took the long way home. Pulls hard to 150 kph+ on the short acceleration burst and seems very happy to give more.

What a neat car.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Got home after 6 weeks away .. slept off the effects of 12+ hours in a plane, woke up, washed car, checked oil, checked garage floor for (no) leaks, dried it off, let it warm up, and then went for a nice sunny drive.

Caught a guy in a black Porsche Carrera 4S coming up fast in my rear view mirror, he's checking out the SVX .. maybe he's never seen one before.

He takes off down a long straight from a stop light (on the way from H'way 99 South to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal). I follow but don't try to keep up .. by the time he's at 160 km/hr (100 mph), I'm at 130 km/hr (80 mph). The car is nice and steady and quiet, no clouds in the sky .. lovely day for a drive.

Back home a couple of hours later .. everything checks out fine, all fluid levels are good, the car is feeling nice and tight. It's nice having all the bugs worked out, replaced or fixed.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

While I had glove box out to replace the blower motor, removed evaporator assembly and replaced expansion valve, cleaned core-amazing how dirty it was! Almost 50% obstructed with "stuff"...then flushed lines with brake cleaner, in preparation for rebuilt compressor installation.
Replaced noisy intermittent blower with 4 Seasons blower motor from Advance auto- $64 after 20% coupon. Not plug and play, doesn't come with a plug like factory unit. I used spade terminals to connect. Might be my imagination, or the fact that glove box is still off, but seems noisier than factory blower on med...
Now, to figure out optimum orientation for the security module antenna...

Changed my wheels over last night and inspected everything I could. Separated outer cv boot on the front left, also that same tire was shredded all along the inner edge.
I guess using those long circular highway ramps every day takes its toll.
In the rear my Nev sway bar and links are just filthy. It's only been a little over a year and they already have the crust.

Mine are pretty bad too. They got tarnished looking pretty quick and then stayed that way though, so I don't think they'll get appreciably worse.
