Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I have NEVER seen a new OEM windshield that did not come with the rubber molding attached. They are manufactured with the molding bonded to the glass.

That is why the molding was never listed separately. It had to be some sort of aftermarket item, since it was found in one of Safelite's warehouses. Does it have the manufacturer's name in the glass? The only other ones we are aware of are from China.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I will take a pic of it tomorrow. I know the "purists" will probably cringe when they see the upper moulding. It has a little flare on the top corners, which the guy said may or may not flatten out. I didn't think it looked that bad, but my wife, of course, was not thrilled about it. It's her car and naturally the crack happened when I was driving it, so it was MY FAULT the windshield cracked (her words). It's not like it's a show car anyways, basically her everyday driver (at least til the snow starts to fall). Yeah, I know it's AWD, but with the amount of salt they put down in PA, it's best to keep her in the garage and let the elements have their way with the '86 Eagle!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I had mine replaced years ago by Diamond glass. They could not find the moulding either. They used some type of caulking instead. Not bad, but I wish it was a gasket.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

It has been a rather rough year for me personally, especially regarding the SVX. My Bordeaux had been sitting for more than 6 months because the transmission would no longer hold 3rd gear anymore barely getting up to 30mph.... so it sat. My Laguna had been wrecked and will not be drivable for quite some time so whenever money permits to get it fixed. The girlfriend's Pearl, I only have driven a few short times... it's not my SVX so I don't even want to drive it.

I moved recently and trying to figure out what to do with my Bordeaux that has almost 210k miles on it in which I had made the decision to part out so I could put the money towards the Laguna, I had no choice but to drive it nearly 7 miles with its slipping 3rd gear (and no tail lights installed, at all) to my new place and store in the garage until I figure it out. Even with its shoddy transmission and having to drive it so slowly for such a long distance, I fell in love with it again. It's like your favorite chair that everyone hates, but it fits you like a glove it might have a lot of tears, dents, or in my case all the above with terrible paint but the car still has soul and a lot of life in it left. Spending nearly 3 years of maintaining and nursing this car for the short 40 some odd thousand miles I've had the pleasure of driving it, I don't think I can let it go or part it out. I always told myself I would never sell it and for a short while listed it to possibly trade for an older Impreza but decided to delete the listing.

On the way to the new place and driving the Bordy back, I had to take a few back roads due to the speed and not wanting to have miles of traffic stuck behind me clogging up the roads with a slow car. I spotted some gravel and just had a lot of fun with it. It reminded me of just how stable and solid this car is and the fact that I could jump right back on the road at around 40mph and not miss a beat just brought a smile back to my face, never mind the trans is shot. I really love these cars and even though it has more than its fair share of flaws (my SVX specifically, not the SVX in general) it made me realize how ridiculous it is to just let it go or even worse, part it out.

I've decided to make the Laguna the project that it has always been intended to be and focus on the Bordy which only really needs a transmission and eventually sometime next year, most likely a new head gasket. Either way, they will never be my DD again. Gas prices are just too ridiculous and saving $250+ a month in gas by driving an econobox just makes sense, as I have been doing. I'm probably going to work on designing some bits here and there that members may want to buy for their SVX to help raise some money toward getting the Laguna fixed.... I'll post more on that later though when I have some stuff actually in the works.

Temporary place holder until the Laguna gets towed home tomorrow...

Yep, that's the way I drove it home! IGNF! and if only the paint looked that good.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

What I did to my silver SVX today: Watched the odometer roll to 190,000 miles. Just returned from a 300+ mile trip, ran strong at liberal freeway speeds and got 27.05 MPG besides. The wish/PM/need list for this car is long and growing, as economic realities and laziness tend to intervene and I end up changing the oil every once in awhile and basically driving the daylights out of the thing. Perhaps this post is probably tempting fate, but I have to say the old car has heart.

New rear brakes. Thought they looked low last time I switched to summer tires. They really were not that bad a little less than 1/8 left.[IMG][/IMG]
What should I hook this hose to?

New alternator from Maniac! So easy to replace I did it in less than half an hour! Works perfectly. I ordered the regular alternator from Maniac... shipping back the core is a snap. Great product... superb service!

There is a hole in the passenger side frame rail/inner fender panel within its arc of movement.
It goes into a black rubber grommet.
