crossed over to the dark side ........

after looking for a '01-'03 996 Turbo for a while, and not having much luck finding one i wanted within 500 miles, i stumbled across a 2008 EVO X MR on Autotrader 3 miles from my house.

normally i'd NEVER consider buying one of these used (most probably jack-assed around in by young bro-dawgs), but i went to check it out, and it was owned by an nice older gentleman, unmodded, not abused, engine properly broken in, with only 7400 miles. its practically brand new. he also owned a Porsche Cayman S, a Lotus Elise, two other cool cars garaged elsewhere (can't remember what they were, duh), and a Forester.

this thing is a beast! its about as fast as the modded LGT .... but it ain't modded yet! just a simple reflash with an air intake adds +60hp on these things, so that should be plenty good for me. it handles like its on rails, and, i never would have believed i'd say this about a Mitsubishi, but it feels really solid, like its carved out of one big block of metal.

some pictArs ......

Re: crossed over to the dark side ........

Congrats man. My wife drives an '08 Lancer GTS (CTV... ). Very very solid feeling car, and great handling, especially for a FWD car, but very slow without the turbo. At higher revs it open up some though. Not a bad motor, just not a powerful enough one. (In '09 or '10, they changed the GTS to a 2.4 from the 2.0 that we have, which makes so much sense.) And she consistently gets 25-28 mpgs. I think one day I'd like to get her an EVO. They look absolutely wicked. One of the best looking new cars for sure.

i was never really a fan of BBS wheels (i've always liked a nice simple design 5-spoke), but i can't imagine any other wheels looking good on this car. they just fit it perfect.

there's a 2010 EVO X MR in Ohio with 2000 miles on it for $28k..... if you could deal with a blue one. that's a hell of a deal, but i'm not too fond of blue cars.

Does it have paddle shift?
BTW, Ray at Turbo Tech Tuning has a Buddy with one that runs 12.4 with only cold air, tuning, and exhaust!

Flappy paddle gear box, no es bueno. The six speed is way better IMO. but an evo is an evo, which = EPIC WIN.

i have the 6-speed - the regular manual is a 5-speed.

"There is a toggle switch behind the shifter that allows you to select between Normal and Sport transmission settings. But if you're feeling particularly feisty--and you've got miles of clear asphalt ahead--hold that toggle switch forward for a few extra seconds. This move will engage S-Sport mode, "Super Sport." What does it do? Well it's sort of like feeding the transmission a beer bong loaded with Red Bull. The shifts become petaflop-quick with a violence that rivals internal combustion itself. The experience leaves you mouthing words we can't print here. And that's just the upshifts. Super Sport will rev-match nearly as high in the rpm band as you need. It's brilliant. Best of all, you can toggle back to Normal at any point and have shifting as smooth as any automatic. It's this Jekyll-and-Hyde gearbox that sums up the whole Evo experience. Here is a sedan with the soul of a supercar--yet daily docility is just a toggle switch away."

its a crap-load of fun.
