Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I pulled my valve covers off today to replace the gaskets. I was pretty amazed at how clean the inside of my engine is for a 20 year old car. There isnt even any varnishing on anything.

Mine were a lot darker than that, ...of course you have 100K less on your car.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Mine, with about 78k on them, looked just like that.

The 140+ k motor ones were just a bit stained.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Got my black one a little sideways.

It was on a turn that my blue car normally handles very easily. Surprised me.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

It wasn't actually today...
I finished it up last night but it had been a few days that I'd been working on it. It helped that I couldn't get my car out the driveway for a couple weeks so I was in no rush to get it done.

Installed my all aluminum radiator made by Old Tom (svxfiles) that I bought from Bobby (sicksubie). It's a two row radiator so the fans don't even come on when I go to work in the morning (3.6 miles).

I had to modify the mounting bracket by the lower radiator hose, and fab up some brackets for the fans.

Also, the passenger side fan bumped into the vapor canister (I think that's what it is anyway ), so I had to cut the bracket for that and shorten it a little.

The old one had the notorious crack in the plastic top. I had patched it three times and decided it wasn't worth risking it breaking on a long trip somewhere.

It was pretty grimy when I pulled it out!

Also installed a trans cooler since this radiator doesn't have one built in.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I painted my 97 grille today. I'm pretty happy with it. The color match is almost perfect, I used Liquid Silver touch up paint from paintscratch.com. Also, I got a good deal on the grille. $55 shipped +$6.00 for some clear coat [I already had the silver paint] I like the waterfall grille a bit more than the 97, but now I can switch them up when ever I feel like a change.
Also had my leaking tire fixed, it was a slow leak around the bead, and I could never seem to keep it up to full pressure. Now my car doesn't shake on the highway, so I am doubly happy.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I had my 97 grille painted, my painting is not very well.
I had thought to paint the bottom 3/4 pearl white and the top bar black, just to give it a little different look. well the paint shop would have charged much more then I thought reasonable for that so I instead went all black. I seen pics of the white car with the white grille and I agree with some of the others it makes it look like a fish mouth.

So all black won out and this is what it looks like.

a farther away shot that really doesnt do it justice, could be the lighting, almost sundown at the time of the photos.

and one from the front

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

92 SVX it looks great! Definitely the best option for a Pearl that I have seen.

My idea, for the grille was to keep it black on the all of the parts that curved in, and only paint the face of it Silver. That way it would appear to to have a larger opening and a thinner body color strip. However I could not seem to tape it off straight enough, so I gave up and did it the usual way.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Finally got power mode back
Now I have to install my power mode switch so I can have it all the time.

Also, I installed some bulbs from Super Bright LEDs in my instrument cluster and switches. They are way crisper than the boring old stock bulbs.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I got tired of messing with the blue wire to access the engine codes. So I installed a pull switch so I can easily check the codes without removing the kick panel.
