Intake manifold removal estimate
I have a leaking coolant line or lines. I can squeeze the outgoing hose from the radiator and see coolant coming out of the back of the engine area. I don't think this is fixable without removing the intake manifold. I don't have the experience to do this myself. Can anybody give me a ballpark figure on the labor charge to remove the manifold and replace the coolant hoses. I would think they all need replacing after twenty years. Any ideas on this appreciated.

The bill came to almost $400 but I'm guessing that my trusted local shop would have done it for about $100 less. It was about 2 hours labor to take off and reassemble the manifold, plus the cost of the hose, plus they charged me for a coolant flush. ![]() They were able to reuse my gaskets, mine were only a year old and new ones would have take a few days to come in since there were none local. Yours will probably need to be replaced.

Re: Intake manifold removal estimate
Thanks for the reply. I'm not taking it to a dealer. I am lucky enough to have a reputed auto repair shop inside of a mile from where I live. My car won't have time to overheat. I think I will take it there tomorrow and have them look at it.

Re: Intake manifold removal estimate
Which side at the rear is leaking? There is one short hose fairly far underneath the IM, which would be difficult to impossible to replace without pulling the manifold off. The heater hoses can be done without removing the IM. You have to pull the airbox stuff off, then it is not so bad. There are also hoses going to the throttle body.
Should be a diagram around here somewhere...

Re: Intake manifold removal estimate
If you're taking the manifold off, and it hasn't ever been off, you might want to consider doing a few other things while you're there. PCV valve, knock sensors, replacing all of the vacuum lines. Others here with more experience may have other suggestions.

Re: Intake manifold removal estimate
All the vacuum hoses will be very brittle and most likely several will break when they have the manifold off. While they are in there is the time to do it.

Re: Intake manifold removal estimate
Make sure to have a Dremel handy for cutting some of the vacuum hoses off the sensors, as they may be so brittle that you'll break the nipples off the sensor while trying to remove the old hose.

Re: Intake manifold removal estimate
If it's just the lines going to the throttle body they are fairly easy to change without removing the intake. Can you snap a pic of where the leak is coming from?
