What happened?

i am curious as to what happened to this thread? I know it's old but i'm bored and am supposed to be writing an essay for my English 110 class on the SVX. Soo this is "Research".
I love the idea of putting so much power in and SVX. But just as most everyone else said that power must be backed up by control. Brakes, suspension, steering, and tires.
Weight saving would be a great place to start i wouldn't look at the hood so much as the trunk. For some reason the original engineers must have had some superhuman strength to not be ablt to notice how heavy it is. And then the hood. Also stripping out A/C i live in southern Michigan and it does get hot out but you go faster then you can stay cool. Maybe also replace and relocate the battery. Perhaps remove the rear window wiper motor and assembly. I never really used it since i broke mine . Seats are a great idea, get a set of reacing seats and cloth them in leather if you really want the luxuary feel.
Beyond that basic stuff i don't know enough about the suspension and engine to mention any modifactions besides reaplacing all the necessary parts with better parts.

This project died. There are way too many obstacles to successfully mod an SVX. The path we began going down was installing a four cylinder STi engine and modding that. Seemed to be reaching a bit to me....

Sold the SVX just last month and, as suggested, am searching for a Porsche Turbo now.

Bag the AWD

I think elninoalex has the right idea. If you want that kind of extreme power in an AWD car, just sell the SVX and buy an Audi. The right Quatro can be pumped up to very high power with less hassle than the SVX engine. The SVX drive train, as someone here noted, does not stand up to 230 HP, why spend a fortune trying to beef it up?

Bag the AWD and go with a small block V8 crate motor or V6 turbo. If you blow up the rear Diff, which you most likely will with 400-500 HP, you can use a Lincoln Mk Vlll diff, which is a Ford 8.8 in an aluminum housing. All this will cost you less than getting extreme HP from your flat six and all the drive train issues.

I am very close to making a deal on the SVX I want, and if I do, I am considering a Buick Regal turbo V6. These can easily make 400 HP with essentially bolt on goodies.

actually, the 4EAT is very sturdy - WRX's run lots of power on them with no problem. longassname's SVX is putting down big power, too, with the Stage II. do not confuse the SVX 4EAT cooling issues with a weak transmission.
