Re: studs breaking off
Apologies to OT... Let me start over.
![]() svxAl: Is it safe to assume that you're not using the stock lug nuts?

Re: studs breaking off
Are you sure you're using the correct 12mmx1.25mm thread pitch lug nuts, as 12x1.5 is more common, many places will try to give you the 1.5 ones, which will cause similar results....

Re: studs breaking off
What Huck said. There is a place in England that sells competition studs which fit although they're about an inch longer.
I also wonder if the rims have a larger hole then the 12mm stud (i.e. a standard size) which is allowing the wheels to move back and forth causing your bolts to shear off.

Re: studs breaking off
I have always thought anti-seize on the lug nuts was bad, also. Ever since I was in high school working at the dealership and one of the service writers that was actually doing oil changes and tire rotating and balancing (they were short handed at the time) had a car come back with major damage after one of the wheels came off when the customer was driving it. After asking the guy some questions they found out he was using anti-seize on the lug nuts. All the techs and the service manager were convinced it was the anti-seize. Who knows, though, maybe he just didn't tighten that one down.

Re: studs breaking off
Probably makes a difference where you put the stuff... Like maybe confine it to just the treads?

Re: studs breaking off
How hard are wheel studs and lugs to:
A: get? do most autozone type places stock 12x1.25 studs, and compatible shank/washer style lug nuts? B: install... is it as easy as pounding the broken lug back through the hub, and pulling the new one into the hub, by tightening an open nut against the brake disc, to pull the stud splines into the hub? Does the brake disc need to come off for that process, or is it more involved than this?

Re: studs breaking off
Ok... then the next logical question is, where do I get another lug nut? Do I have to go all the way to the nearest Subaru dealer, and hope their parts counter is open?
mail order and wait for shipping? I was hoping to have the parts today, by going to the auto parts store... But I guess waiting is waiting, if it is necessary.
