SVX As A Potential Collector Car
Is anyone keeping their SVX in storage until the 25 year mark?

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
Yes,
I took Christine to the store twice today, chasing down parts, picking up groceries, bring home LUMBER and window air conditioners! Unless you keep our/your SVXi in a climate controlled, low humidity, dust and UV free zone, (museum?) they will deteriorate. I hope that someone,EARL!!! will step up and do this properly.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
With how many cars Earl has, he could probably just let them sit outside for another 25 years, and still have enough good parts to build an immaculate car
(just kidding, of course)

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
There are probably a few around that are driving them to keep them running good, but keeping limited mileage. I have a few that are like that.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
Speaking of collectibles, how is everything going with the JDM one, Earl? Is it legal yet, or what?

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
I have been pretty busy, but I will probably get it done in the next month or so. I have had some things that I wanted to get done and have been working on those.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
My current driver is never going to be pristine again, due to chassis damage in the past.
So it is going to continue to be my driver. But if I somehow got into some money, I'd love to find a rust-free chassis, either as complete as possible, or with a complete parts car that isn't worth putting back on the road for some reason... ... and building a pristine, tastefully modified (non-stock paint color, ECUTune or Toms-built engine approaching 300 NA horsepower, and STI 6MT gearbox... that sort of thing...) show-car quality, special-occaision driver, for the time that is becomes a classic. It is already special and unique.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
It does, have a look at my Avatar which contains something which is simply getting old, not so much collectable.
Oh and the SVX does not lend itself to long term storage. I tried it for 4 years or so. In reality it cost me more to keep it in the same condition when I started limited driving then it costs for gas and maint. on all 4 of my current vehicles.

I think mine is in pretty darn good shape. I drive it to the office a few times a year. Still runs great! Original transmission, too.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
With direct reference to the heading of this thread, I point out that all cars which have proven valuable as a collectors item, have in some way been of special interest. Many have been designed for normal use but have somehow included some specially significant quality.
Does not the existence ot this forum prove a point? It is a fact that members are more than willing to undertake restoration work which is in fact not economically viable, solely on the basis of an inherent special characteristic. What is more several members have acquired more than one SVX. I believe that this proves the point that the SVX is becoming collectable.

Shmaybe during the wintertime. I've got cones to dodge, people to puzzle, awe to be struck, and an annual trip to Reading that are all hard to do with white plastic wrap.
