Proactively Replacing 02 sensors... Is it a waste of money?
Hello all,
My 1996 has 115K miles and I don't think the O2 sensors have ever been changed. I have no indicators that they are defective, I was just thinking that they need to be replaced at about 100K miles. That being said, should they really be replaced proactively? Thanks in advance. Clarke |

Re: Proactively Replacing 02 sensors... Is it a waste of money?
You are doing the right thing..your gas mileage should be a bit better too.
I don't normally do mine unless it throws a code. If you haven't done so, put some antiseize on the threads. |

Put new ones on mine proactively. Figured it could only help.

I wait for a code. If they aren't working properly the CEL will let you know.

Re: Proactively Replacing 02 sensors... Is it a waste of money?
If you're seeing no symptoms, I really see no reason to replace them. Now, if you were having bad mpg or other engine issues, then I could justify replacement. But, "just because it's old" isn't really a good reason to replace things on a car unless it's prompted by something else, or it's something that wears out with age (belts, gaskets, etc.)

If it aint broke, dont fix it. If it broke while you were fixing it, it needed fixin' anyway!

Re: Proactively Replacing 02 sensors... Is it a waste of money?
I would proactively replace O2 sensors (or pretty much anything else) only if a failing O2 sensor could make me have to walk home.

I just ordered a couple of those NGK's, John pointed out in another thread. Only about thirty dollars each.
