Guys keep in mind this car has a bad water pump as stated in the first post. I highly recomend you bring a trailer or AAA

In that case just bring the plate.
Drivers around me NEVER ask questions about the car, just "where you going?". I have the registration sticker on the window. All I would say is that my car is leaking and Im taking it to a friends house to fix.

why is the scrap yard the fall-back position?
Have you gone around to some used car lots, and ask them what they'll give you for it? It probably will be more than the scrap yard will. AND it will keep a running car on the road. Some of us, or maybe just me, wish we could just collect up all the SVXs for sale, and then keep them in stay for people who might want whole cars later, and consolidating cars that are rough in this way or that, into nicer cars. But unfortunately that isn't really feasible for most of us. If I had capital, I'd start a repository, kind of like Porsches and BMWs, and Mustangs and some other cars have... limited make/model salvage/sale/restoration facility... But I don't, and the folks here who do that sort of work need to eat... and there likely isn't enough of it to support that. But a car dealer would at least re-sell the car, and people would go there to look for a car. It isn't as ideal as getting a private sale price, but it is better than scrapping another SVX that still runs.

Its not even worth it to CALL a used car lot for the quote.
