3 Questions
So my rear main seal is leaking at a decent rate, and asking around I've been quoted in the $400-$500 dollar range. What is a good price, and is there any way of it not costing so much?? I know that's probably my only option but it's worth a shot.
Also, I am getting a basic transmission cooler. I think the B&M 70268 should do. Are there any detailed how-tos on the installation of such a model? I don't want to mess anything up when putting it in. One more question. Does anyone know where oxygen sensor 3 is exactly? I threw a code for it the other day and would like to clean it up a bit. Thank you all. |

Re: 3 Questions
Oxygen sensor 3 would be the one that is located on or near the 2-into-1 cat converter.
For the rear main seal, the transmission or engine needs to be pulled out and so it is all labor cost. If it is not that bad of a leak, I would recommend just keeping track of the oil level in the car and try to find a friend or something who might be willing to do it for a lot less. Just a thought. ![]() |

Re: 3 Questions
I think the $400 you were quoted is a pretty fair price for that job.

Re: 3 Questions
Thanks guys. P0145 is the same code I got. I cleared it a couple hundred miles ago, I hear it comes back every 400 to 800 miles or so. One of my mechanic friends suggested putting a resistor in it's place being that it's just a backup O2 sensor. I figure I'll try to clean it off and put it back before I do anything else as I've heard that has solved O2 sensor problems for some.

Re: 3 Questions
I also took mine out cleaned the end as well as cleaned all the connectors and it came back after 120 miles.now it returns after 20 miles.weird because the car idles fine and runs fine.keep us posted on your resistor solution.

Re: 3 Questions
It will still run alright, just will probably run very rich and your gas mileage will suffer. Just replace it... Its not too tough a job

Re: 3 Questions
Update:
Cleared the codes after P0145 came up. The check engine light hasn't come on for about 700 miles... I have been blessed with the appearance of the airbag light however... It seems it's not too simple to figure out exactly what would cause that. |
