Re: svx help
Could you please clarify some things for us? When you said it was 'clicking while the transmission is turning', do you mean while the car is going around a turn, or do you mean when the car is in gear?
It sounds like your issue is either a bad axle or a bad front differential. We'll need more information to help you diagnose this. I'm sorry for all of the questions, but your post is not very concise. I'm guessing that you speak English as a second language. ![]() Mike

Re: svx help
You need to drop out the transmission, separate the differential from the transmission and take apart the back of the transmission. Then replace the ring and pinion for the differential. A lot of work.
Or you can just swap in a transmission and rear differential from another subaru with a higher gear ratio that will give it better acceleration and seem to be much more reliable than the stock SVX transmission. As for things you need, You need access to a lift, other than that its just 10,12, and 14mm sockets and wrenches to do just about all the work. Search for transmission replacement and you should get threads on how to R&R the trans. Last edited by 1986nate; 03-13-2009 at 07:48 AM. |

Re: svx help
It's worth noting that the clutch packs in the higher gear ratio transmissions off the other model subaru's aren't actually as strong as SVX clutch packs. It's just a billion times easier to find one that isn't on it's last legs. I've rebuilt a couple 4.44's I sourced through svxfiles and while the clutch packs they came with didn't have the capacity that the svx clutch packs do they were in very good shape because they hadn't been pushing around a heavy, torquey SVX for 10-15 years.

Re: svx help
I'm thinking that if you're asking this question, it's probably beyond your abilities.
