Another water in trunk thread!!
I have read some of the other posts on water in the trunk. My water has soaked, and I mean soaked, the carpet and underboard, with a little in the spare tire well.
I looked at the drain tube on driver's side, seemed okay. Everything dry. The passenger side has foam stuffed into the openings, and when I put my hand in, its wet in there. Up where the back window meets the side of car. So, do I disassemble that side in both the back seat and trunk? I know, stupid question, but how do I get at the drain tube? Or is it even that?

Re: Another water in trunk thread!!
Most of the time the rear light and centerbar light gaskets dry out and water goes in the inside of the car. Check these first.

Re: Another water in trunk thread!!
On mine, the gaskets indeed had dried out, but also the butyl that seals the taillight lens to the housing. When it would rain, the water would go past the lens into the housing, and directly into the trunk. With a heat gun and some CAREFUL cutting/prying, I was able to separate the lens/housing and apply some windshield urethane to the housing and press it all back together. No more leaks!!

Re: Another water in trunk thread!!
Yeah regarding the water in the taillights situation.... its one of my pet peeves when tail lights fog up inside or get condensation in them...it just looks so trashy, and the SVX deserves better lol. I removed my taillights and cleaned the outside seam where the lens and housing meet.. then siliconed them all the way around. No more problems!! Thats the easy way for people who are too clumsy to seperate the assy without breaking expensive parts
![]() This is going to sound funny, but climb into your closed trunk from the back seat with a flash light, and listen and feel for water coming in while somebody holds a hose to the trunk and rear glass... |
