front grill~

i don't have that much to spend right now on the whole new grill, so i decided to end up painting the thing (92svx).. masking tape isn't really my thing, so any tips on how to take the damn thing out?? =P

oh, and if anyone asks.. i just think it looks dull as it is, and it really doesn't help that i think there's a crack in it because there's moisture build up or something... well for SOME reason there's water, and unfortunately the same goes with my taillights, but i don't think it's very legal to paint those ^_^

it's pretty simple really...

1. open the hood (duh)

2. on the left and right corners, a few inches in you'll see a squarish wedge thing. squeze it together carefully w/ some pliers, and tilt it back towards you, so the clip doesn't pop back in, then do it to the other side

3. rotate the whole thing towards you and give it a lil upward pull. should pop right out.

Yes it is pretty simple, but if your SVX is old and you're not extremely careful (sometimes even if you are), you will invariably break at least one of the plastic clips because they've become too brittle. I suggest that you pick up a couple of new clips before taking the grill off and replace them regardless of whether you break the old ones or not.

I did this when putting my grill back in the 2nd time. Just one of them. it still holds its self in there pretty good though

When I changed my grille (had a hairline crack, causing moisture and bought Lwin's 94 grille), I had to snip the cable tie the previous owner used to secure the grille in lieu of buying new clips. Luckily, I'd bought new clips (from John Hoffman, who'd picked them up for me before the Canaan Valley meet) so, I replaced them.

Just remember that if it ever flys off, it'll cost you at least $400+ to get a new grill. Is that worth the cost of saving that $2 now on a new clip?

What are you talking about?

The 92 grill is around 200 and the 97 grill is 140ish and those are dealer price.

i'm sure with shipping + paint it ups the cost a bit.

thanks for all your help~ but stupid me wasn't patient enough and decided to go ahead and mask basically the whole front end.

just for future reference, i'm lost about these clips. i found them all right, but i didn't know how to get them out =\ if i were to buy these, do i just go to some home depot and say "uh.. where's your clips?"

Look here

http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=911-A

If it's $266 at subaruparts.com, I can guaran-darn-tee you that dealer pricing will be amost double that if not more.

my dealer charged me 140 last time. Go to www.subaruofschaumburg.com and give the parts dept. a call. Talk to Crig and tell him that Lwin from SVX network sent you. If you want, and if you are comming to the meet, i can bring it with me.
