looking for ideas on no 3rd brake issue
Hey all,
So I bought a 'new' trans a little while ago and have been fighting allot off issues with it. One thing that has not been addressed by Mike is the lack of 3rd gear braking. In the many pm's I never received any thought from him on what could be causing this condition. I have read that not having the sol A resistor (behind the batt) connected will cause this. Well I have it plugged in and the resistance tested good also, even after a drive when it was heated a bit. So, what else can cause a trans to have no engine brake effect while the shifter is positioned in the 3rd gear slot? Any takers would be appreciated. Thanks, Shaun

Back On Topic...
I am still wondering what could be the cause of no engine brake in 3rd gear.
Does the brake band have anything to do with it? Anyone with ideas?

This raises problems with the Transfer clutch that can bind due to the higher pressure. It also causes problems with the over-run clutch, because when the box is in D or 3rd position, the over-run clutch is not allowed to operate while the throttle is on or it will cause interlocking. It knows this because it is looking at the line pressure, that it expects to drop to a set level to show that the throttle is closed. This is the same pressure that the modification has raised, so it never gets to the set pressure that tells it that the throttle is closed and its OK to apply it. Harvey.

That sounds like a logical answer. Thanks for the input. ![]()

So this brings me to the question of where the transmission should shift. Due to the fact that the ecutune 2v7 chip raises red line to 7300 rpm should the transmission shift at that that rpm or at the stock 6K rpm? Or are there other factors in this game also?

It could be argued that the regulated pressure could be raised on a percentage basis, but pulse length modulation of solenoid A and the time element, means that such would be minimal.
