Hold those accountable.... accountable.

Quote from outgoing UN boss concerning Iraqis saying things are worse than under a dictator:

"I think they are right in the sense of the average Iraqi's life," Annan said. "If I were an average Iraqi obviously I would make the same comparison, that they had a dictator who was brutal but they had their streets, they could go out, their kids could go to school and come back home without a mother or father worrying, 'Am I going to see my child again?'

Full Article:

CNN - Iraq worse than Civil War

There's no doubt we have to fix this, and the answers to fixing it is a rarety from both parties. We have no choice but to resolve it.

But there must also be accountability. This war is not a last resort situation as wars usually are. It is a premeditated war. It was calculated, evidence was actually simulated for justification, and the other side was cooperating fully prior to the invasion. Telling a leader he must leave his country within 72 hours is NOT justification for invading a country, and causing the destruction that is still happening 3 years later.

Just as we must try to rehabilitate a drunk driver that has killed a family, we must also hold that drunk driver accountable for his crime.

This should ring true thousands of times over for the people who conspired to start this war.

Yeah! Pull the other one! (Monty Python ) Quoting Annan is akin to quoting Capone when they repealed prohibition. He was making MUCH MORE money while prohibition was in effect. Making liquor legal took money out of his pocket -- same with taking out Saddam. It took money out of Annan's (and his son's) pocket.

You keep talking about "simulated evidence" -- I gladly refer to my previous posts in showing that no evidence was "simulated" that 3 separate commissions said that Bush did not lie and that half the remainder of the free world was convinced that Saddam had WMD's and, not only that, was a threat to the region, evidenced by 6 years of pissin' on UN resolultions and 17violations of the ceasefire that he signed. Legally, allied forces had the right (under the provisions of the UN resolutions) to "go in" after the FIRST violation.

Yes, school children could go to and from school -- unless Qusay took a shine to one lf the little girls. I daren't say what would happen then. Or, one of the little boys happened to somehow find his own mind and start speaking against the atrocities that were being committed against his neighbors.

I'm all for accountability -- once it's over (and for God's sake, let's let it get over FIRST), then, the accountability can be apportioned -- that includes accountability for sowing seeds of discontent within THESE borders -- from BOTH parties.

Aredubjay, the Anti-Electrophil...

Why is it that everytime Phil posts, and Randy replies, I feel like Phil ends up crying in a corner?

Well, you notice how the only successful Republicans now are the ones who are running full away from this war. Everyone is distancing themselves from the administration for good reason - it's a sinking ship. Tom Ridge knew what was going to happen when he quit a long time ago.

Accountability?

It ain't over until its over, so wait and see how it ends. Again, I don't recall any attacks on our soil or even against major American facilities or activities outside Afghanistan or Iraq. I do believe that indicates there is some success---wouldn't you agree???

And before you start talking about Americans dying in Iraq---again, I say----ask the American soldier if he thinks we are doing the right thing.

Where are the warmongers? I've still got a little "Hippy" left in these ol' bones.

Yes, and that's why the non-binding resolution against the troop surge passed so handily.

Yes -- this is the voice that is missing in this whole debate. There's plenty of press on the guy (I won't call him a soldier) who refused to deploy. But where's the voice of the soldier who is there? I'm sure there are those who don't want to be there, but, I'd venture a guess that most of our fighting men and women are proud of the job they're doing and don't deserve to be debased and marginalized by politics...nor do they deserve to be called "mercenaries" or "naive" for saying that they believe in what they're doing. HUA?

I was in Kuwait and Qatar when Iraq first started escalating... and Afghanistan was starting to wind down... I was then, and still now fully supportive of our actions.
