Unhappy My Car won't start no sound no clicks

I need help bad. I beautiful 94 SVX is dead and won't start. Yesterday I went to my garage and tried to start my car and it was just dead!! I turned the key to start it and nothing!!!! I had headlights and all music worked etc but when I turned the key, the clock and radio light dimmed but no sounds from the engine. I then decided to change the battery which didn't help. I then change the starter/solenoid and that didn't help. I am now going to read my computer ......now that I finally found the dang stealthy wires and found instructions on the site on how to do it. Right now the everything like headlights, fan , heater, music, get power. But when I turn the key to start my car, clock dims and radio light dim but headlights and dash lights are nice and bright!!! This is freakin wierd! Before this problem , my car ran FINE... no problems at all!! I would have expected some kind of freakin warning before the dive (check engine light , gasping ...something). My poor car just woke up dead that day. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will read my computer today. I hope it sends back a code.

Very interesting

Do you hear a click when you turn the key?
Is your ignition loose?

You should be able to start the car with a screwdriver shorting the terminals on the starter (don't do this if you're not completely confident with the procedure).

I don't have a security system so I don't know if that could also cause this problem.

Place the shifter in Nuetral and try again, as it could be your Nuetral Safety Switch acting up.

But it is more likely the Starter relay or Starter solinoid is bad...

Unhappy

Where is the starter relay and I already replaced the starter...it had a solenoid of piggybacked on it. Hope that was the solenoid. Does the SVX have more than one starter solenoid??? I already tried the neutral deal and it did the same thing. But when I move the selector to any drive or reverse position it does the same thing but I hear faint buzzing sounds while the key is in the on position. They stop once I either turn the key back off or move the selection out of drive gear or reverse. I will read my computer tonight after work. I'm praying that this is not electrical!!!!

We had the same problem, when we installed our 4.44. Swapped the starter, turned alarm off and on, nothing.

The inhibitor [neutral safety switch] was bad. Everything as you described. Finally, pulled the plug under the hood and plugged in another switch, right on top of the engine! Started right up. So, mounted the 'new' switch on the side of trans, good to go. Plug in another inhibitor switch and see what happens. I don't know why yours would fail, I figured mine had a rough life when the trans was pulled at the wrecker.

Wow ...someone that had the same problem!!. I even check computer codes and trans codes nothing abnormal. I did get a buzzing sound when putting the selector in D, 1,2,3 etc for the trans test. Direction said to slightly depress accelerator and the buzzing went away momentarily. How much does such a switch cost ?? Can I get it from a junk yard??? It is hard to replace. I hard you say something about it being on top of the trans. OMg I'm gonna have to jack my car up and crawl under it and all?? lol I do whatever to get my sweet car back on the road.

The switch mounts on the passenger side of the trans and plugs into the harness at the back of the engine, same side. I unplugged it there, and plugged in another switch, just leaving the new switch in park position on top of the intake manifold. The car started, so I removed the old switch and mounted the new switch on the trans.

Someone must have a switch? Start a thread and ask for a switch.

I believe the switch is located on the trans for the manual trans, and under the shift for the automatic trans. You can find this info in the manual.

The buzzing you heard was the solenoids in the trans....

Won't have to lower the tranny....but you might need to drop the pass. side exhaust to make room to work on it....

Just a simple question this time....how do I disconnect the NSS from the harness. Is the wiring harness held together via a tab or two tab or just one tab. It look like the harness from the vehicle fits inside the NSS harness. Tough to pull apart and don't want to damage anything.

You have to push the one tab down (in toward the center) to release it, an dpull while holding the tab down....and it is a PITA to get them loose sometimes...
