Would this LCD/Stereo fit the SVX?

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FVWgcSy...=1&cc=01&avf=Y
Since the screen does not come out and fold up like most other DVD players and it uses the 2 din spaces for the LCD would this work? My only concern would be the lower right hand corner where the stereo cover panel is curved. I'd hope there would be some way to get one of these in an SVX without cutting stuff up as it would not look as good.

This is the pic that I'm talking about, http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/pro...15-o_open.jpeg

That looks interesting. Please keep us informed if you get it and get it installed.

It should fit but you have to try it out. You can remove the cage and redo it all in the area if you really must (which is what I will end up doing). If you have skills and patience, you can do it..

If and when I do get it. I will not be installing it. I have no knowledge in that area if things are not exactly as they are in the manual. Me and my dad attempted installing a stereo in my first car (Volvo 240DL) and not only was it a PITA, it never fit in right. It stuck 1-2" out of the slot and wiggled up and down. I want a professional clean job which is something I doubt I could do on my own if any customizing is needed. Which is what was needed with the Volvo but never got done. So I will need to find a shop that will do it without scratching my trim or breaking any plastic.

My dad's idea of making speaker mounts for the Volvo out of wooden blocks which we did also turned me off from any more hack jobs. They just look horrid.

Oh, and patience. LOL. I have not had any of that since the incident that wreaked my SVX. I'm being kept in the dark about alot of stuff involving that because I'm a minor and that kind of treatment makes my patience wear very thin so I hope I get a new one soon. *crosses fingers*

I won't speak for Lwin, but good shops are hard to find. Workers who install units, are not usually very careful and DO scratch the plastic and sometimes do a much worse job than you could have done. You need to check with some of your friends for shops where they took their cars and had stuff installed and who can tell you that they are happy with the job that they did. Start looking now, and hopefully you will know who to take it to when you need to have it done. Good Luck

Being an installer, yes ......there are some that know there stuff, and some that just want to get the day over with and go through the motions.

Go to any shop, there's always that ONE guy that knows his sh**. It's always good to shop around and see what guy/shop gives the most respect for the SVX. I know if I saw one come into my shop I'd talk to the owner for a long time. ..........find a shop with (someone like me) and they'll take excellent care of you.

The SVX needs some knowledge though .....u have to know where those Antenna plugs are and that YOU CAN'T JUST PLUG a subaru wiring harness into the SVX. So a specialty shop ONLY and try to inform them of this before hand.

Radio

My concern would be that when you feed in a CD that the face slides out, that it might hit the back-side of "Fake Wood Cover" with the black plastic that attaches to it. Better ask how far it slides out and do some measuring before you buy it.

Put it this way, like earl says, good installers are hard to come by. In the case of the SVX, it's an easy job and I can pull out the CD cage in about 3-4 minutes without breaking anything. It comes with experience.

In Chicago area, I've only seen it once. I was looking for a small 3" LCD to fit over my ash tray and I was going all over Chicago. One small shop in Palatine as soon as they saw the ashtray asked if it was going into a SVX. That shop, I might bring my car in if I was too busy.

Do you need a how-to for removal of the parts? I am behind a couple of things and I am packing since I am moving in a couple of days too.

The radio will not hit any part of the radio cage/plastic when it slides down.

You have nothing to worry about. I had a Kenwood unit that worked the same way.

is it true that it is illegal to play dvds in the car when the car is in motion? this unit advertise that the dvd is for stationary use only... does that mean the dvd function locks up when the car is moving??
