These cleaning products are available at your local "Pep Boys" "Autozone" "Advance Auto" and equivalents.

Simple Green, available from Malmart is a eco system friendly degreaser. I have used it on engines with a brush to do spot cleaning but I haven't tried to clean the whole engine with it.

Anyway, I wanted to add something to this thread. While I was washing the car Sunday (check it out - the wife let me do it twice in a month) I found a BIG blob of tar on the front bumper cover. Actually, I didn't really see it until I had rubbed the sponge across it a couple times, spreading the stuff ALL OVER. CRAP, I thought, what am I going to do? Any of the stuff that takes pitch or tar off is usually REALLY nasty and leaves Barcelona Red on the rag. I hate that. I have a can of foaming Simple Green Bike Cleaner, which is exactly the same as regular Simple Green except that it's foamy. I sprayed it on the tar, wiped ONCE with a rag and it was gone. Beautiful. While I was at it I sprayed the wheels and tires and it seemed to leave them cleaner than usual. I love Simple Green.

I've used eco-green before. Doesn't work all that bad, but it doesn't work well on the really grimy stuff.
Steam works awesome, by far the best engine cleaner I've used before. But it's hard on the environment, and your lungs if you take in a wiff of it. Either way its the stuff I use. Just shoot it on and let it sit for 10 min. I tend to use at least 3/4 of a car on the engine....turns everything silver. Ryan
