Historic Meeting!

. . . well, for me, anyway.

After almost five years of corresponding, here and there, if all goes well, I'll finally get to meet ThumperSVX!

Some of you old . . . uhm . . . LONG timers will recall that Thumper was one of the first members of the Yahoo site and the author of the first stereo replacement "how to" (for which I've given him all manner of hell for cutting off the antenna

).

Even though we only live three hours apart, we hadn't managed to get together in all these years. I'm kinda torqued, as you may well have figured out. Perhaps I'll post pix after we meet on Sunday.

heh sweet! i love little mini-meets.. it's great.. my first one was with a guy named Ziggy from the Yahoo board.. we got together to do the PS o-ring fix on my car and wound up going out drinking for the rest of the night.. turned into a pretty good friendship..

Unfortunately, he'll just be breezing through. We'll have time for a quick dinner before he's on the road again. Probably a good thing for me. I don't know if I could keep up drinking with a crazy Limey! Tetley's anyone? (With apologies to Colin Riley -- keeper of the floating widget.

<grin> The feeling is mutual old chum... and Halistan will be along for the ride too... so it becomes a true mini-meet. I'm sure I'll be posting after Sunday's get together as well... probably drag the digi camera along for the ride as well. This oughtta be fun

Hey man... Tetley's is cool... of course I'd wonder if you were referring to the tea or the bitter... but either's probably good in my opinion

Of course, we still need to figure out EXACTLY where this meet is due to occur... I'll leave that decision up to you mate

There is a Denny's at Exit 57 (Dale, Jasper, Huntingburg). I'll see you there. O'course, the "Iron Chef Buffet" is just down the road about 3 minutes. If you're up for some good food (instead of Denny's), I'll check on the way in to make sure it's open on a Sunday.

Just gimme a call when you get nearer. I sent you my number. I have yours as well, so, If I don't hear from you, I'll be giving you a ring.

Well, I started this message when I got home, but, had a couple of calls while I was waiting, so, now, It's been almost an hour since I got home from my meeting with Gavin and Ray.

Spoke with my daughter at college and to Nick Owens (Mr. Pockets) -- two great people to hear from today.

Anyhoo, had a great Lunner (I figure that if Breakfast and Lunch are a "Brunch" we had Lunch/Dinner=Lunner)

at the "Iron Chef Buffet." It bills itself as an American/Chinese/Italian buffet. So, I'm still trying to figure out where the "Japanese Chicken" dish comes in that was on the buffet. They also had "Crawfish" on their weekend seafood spread. You have to remember, this IS southern Indiana.

It was great to finally meet Gavin after all these years. Just like most SVXers I've met, though, there was no "introductory." It was just like we'd known each other, face to face for years and we were just picking up the relationship. Just wish we could've spent more time.

It was good to see Ray again and see that he didn't hold a grudge for me thrashing his car in Indy.

Hope you guys make it home safe and sound.

Oh, Gavin, if Ray checks in, let him know I got his post cards in the mail. Let him know that the recipients will get a little bonus. I made a side trip to put the cards in a special mail box. Tell him the post cards will bear the somewhat collectable postmark of the little town of Santa Claus, IN.

Yeah... it was a great time out. The food was... uhm... interesting. Not sure quite what to think of that yet... all I know I was tasting it most of the way home

Didn't eat ANYTHING until lunchtime on Monday... I guess I did go a little overboard on eating.

To answer... yeah 'dub we got home safe. Rolled into St. Charles, MO right around 7:30 or so, not bad timing. I think Ray ate too much too... he fell asleep with Aerosmith blaring out of the stereo. Go figure

I'll be posting a message to the board later about my trip... I've had a VERY hectic couple of days at work and home which has somewhat limited my ability to post. Still... some news coming.

Again... GREAT to meet Randy finally after all this time. And you're right... it seems to be SVXers need no introduction to each other... it's like we all know each other on-sight and just the ice is already broken. Great experience
