Having been a passenger in some hopped up turbo diesel Ford and Dodge trucks lately, I'd keep putting one in an SVX in mind
-Bill p.s. the Dodge truck has done the 1/4 mile in the 12s!

Small
I see it is only a 4 cylinder, so it is safe to assume that they are not entering the full size pickup market.

You boys and your trucks !! I've been scouting the 'net and there are reports of a 6 cylinder for the Tribecca, but I guess that's behind the 4 cylinder unit shown, so maybe 2008 ?? Phil.

It would be interesting in something like an Xb. High MPG, engine under the floor, ala Greenbrier or VW Type-2.
Actually, I'm trying to find a deal on an Xb with a blown engine/tranny. Sticking a 230hp, flat 6 under the back shouldn't be too difficult...

Any ideas on the numbers that engine would put out? I'd assume something similar to the current 4 cylinder, but more torque-y.

Need

Actually some of actually NEED a truck at times. During the last month the roads here have been so bad with snow and mud that there is not a Subaru that could make it and the truck was a MUST. Also, Subaru does not make anything worth a damn at towing trailers. Upsizing---for 2008 Ford is coming out with a 6.4L dual sequential turbo diesel Super Duty truck engine with 350HP and 650 ft/lb of torque. It will be more fuel efficient and cleaner burning than current engines. I was having a gentle prod at the "truck culture" you guys have, not a specific attack on anyone !! I suspect most the "trucks" over there are used the same as over here, the furthest off-road they will ever go is mounting the curb outside the school yard............. I've got a (British) colleague over here at the moment who lives near Syracuse NY. He says they've had 80 or more inches of snow in the past month to 6 weeks, and I know that his wife has been using their F150 rather than her Tiberon (sp??) (thats a Hyundi Coupe to us). I spent a good few winters over in BC, Alberta and NY (I used to work installing and troubleshooting Industrial Gas Turbine installations in Oil and Gas and Power generation) so I know it gets a little frosty over there !! We had about half a dozen flakes the other week and all the airports closed, trains were delayed and schools closed................. However we do now have Chrysler/Dodge trying to sell us Rams (and SC300's and the weird looking Calibre thing) over here in the UK, and seeing a full size Ram on a British road is laughable, really, never mind the fuel cost. Ford offer us the Ranger, but only with small capacity petrol, or diesel power plants. GM offer us versions of the Issuzu Trooper, similar to the Jimmy/Blazer and Jeep, well they try to sell us Jeeps !! Intersting about the new Ford diesel power plant, and I mean I am genuinely interested in the technical aspects and designs of that engine, but engines of that size just don't exist in European vehicles, unless they are in very specialised performance machines coming from Italy, Germany etc fuelled by petrol, so I would expect 650bhp as well as 650lb/ft and a sub 4 second sprint to 60. While this type of engine has to conform to the emission regulations I'm sure the designers and owners for that matter really don't care about MPG !! I wouldn't call those comparable power plants, so I guess they mean compared to last years Power-stroke or Triton V8/V10 of the same capacity ?? Are they fitting a re-combusting particulate filter in the exhaust and EGR system similar to the best European and Japanese diesels ?? Or something more ?? Sorry if I touched a raw nerve with my original post, sometimes my humour is so dry it's powdered !! Phil.

You may not have seen my posts of long ago that indicate that I live in a rural mountain area at almost 8000 feet elevation and part of the access is by dirt roads. I have to drive approximately 25 miles one way just to get the mail, a newspaper or even a bottle of milk. We have also had more than 80 inches of snow over the last 6 weeks. You can see a little more information on the truck I am talking about at the link listed. You can see more detail on the engine by further exploring the site. Check under the 2008 truck area. http://www.fordvehicles.com/Trucks/2...tour/index.asp Lee
