Re: svx hitches

following the design plans that were posted on the forum maybe make a mod or 2 if necessary.

Chucksta is going to help me with the build and might get a chance to powdercoat them

Re: svx hitches

I don't recall the weight capacity. Would towing a 19 ft Bayliner boat be feasible?
The frame on my towing vehicle looks like French Lace, 1999 GMC Sierra with only 200,000 km.

Re: svx hitches

I can easily tow a 1200 lb trike motorcycle on a very heavy duty 5x 10 trailer.
Total weight 1700 lb. ( just a guess)

Re: svx hitches

I've pulled several cars with my SVX, including my friend's Chevy Tracker several miles to a shop (with tow ropes, not on a trailer). It never showed any problems with it, in most cases it would start moving both cars as soon as I released the brakes in drive without hitting the gas.

Now, that being said, I've never done anything resembling a long distance tow with it. The obvious point of failure will be that good old 4EAT. The EG33 has plenty of grunt and the brakes on the SVX are fairly robust as long as they're working well. With a good transmission cooler I would say the SVX can probably handle a Class II hitch rating (3500 lbs trailer weight). I suspect your Bayliner+trailer would be in the 3000-3200 lbs range dry, depending if you have a 3.0 or 4.3 engine, so that would be pushing things a bit.

Re: svx hitches

3,200 lbs sounds like the right number. It's a short haul from the ski hill to the south end of Pemichangan Lake but it may be a bit much.
The alternative is a hitch on the wife's 535i GT at about $750.00.

You're on Pemichangan? My family has been there for 50 years! Do you have a cottage there or just bring the boat up?

We discussed it before, don't you remember. I'm the one that's getting old!

We've had a place at Mont Ste. Marie for 48 years and launch at the south end.

*grumble grumble*.... Any lapses in memory before 7AM don't count.
