Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
Oops. I forgot all about Tom's revised, and enlarged crossover pipe. The radiator inlets and outlet adn the hoses are stock size. Here is the list of modifications again, corrected.
1. Enlarged and revised coolant crossover pipe 2. Thermostat relocated from water pump inlet to radiator inlet hose. 3. 160 DegF thermostat 4. 175 DegF fan acutation setpoint.

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
I can see many welds on the left side pipe, does that mean you welded the pieces according to manifold clearance? So it is not a perfect pipe...

And in my view, not true dual pipes like the Tribeca...

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
Ahhh, but it seems to work. It was such a pleasure not having to deal with overflowing coolant every track session.

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
Touche...but dual top pipes would be like the following. I wonder if that would make any difference.
I'd love to know what the difference was between yours and my experience. By Sunday (our time) I expect to have an update for you from my perspective....45mm bottom hose and no thermostat. M |

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
Danny, did not have a long enough piece of 1.5" tubing to make the straight shot. So I built one with what I had... If was a one off idea that we did not know if it was going to work or not... Just had to try it.
Matt, the purpose of the pipe was not to create a dual outlet but to move the merge away from the R/S outlet and further downstream to where if one bank were to have an opposing pressure a venturi would help equalize flow, pressure, and velocity. When I built this, it was on the premise that the flow for both banks was not equal and causing the L/S bank to run warmer than the right. Also, running no stat is not a good idea. Yes it might keep the engine from overheating but the longer it takes the warm up, the more fuel you are pumping into the cylinders w/o a need. Relocating it to an outlet allows you to get rid of the cycling from the head, retain heat, and create the ideal system to control a running temp rather than just keeping it as low as possible Tom |

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
Thanks for the points.
When Harvey mentioned dual system, I envisaged the later H6 setup with dual top pipes to dual fittings on the radiator. I'm a fan of reusing Subaru's ideas in some cases as I expect they have more development dollars than me. No thermostat in a road car I would agree...in the rally car, fuel usage isn't so much of an issue. Thanks, Matt |

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
It shouldn't be overlooked that YT also tapped into the heads at the bosses for the front two cylinders on each head and ran hoses to the custom crossover pipes!

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"
Interested to know if that would make the temperature the same all over the cooling system
