Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Just had a heart attack when I learned I need $2600 worth of repairs. new engine, new radiator, new front brakes, I'm already figuring a way to get rid of it.

If that includes both parts and labor I think that is quite reasonable (for Alaska, where everything is more expensive). I just spent $600 alone on those rear mounts, I have to buy an upgraded WRX-compatible gearset, get the trans rebuilt, then get new struts and front mounts AND a custom-made serviceable driveshaft, and I am happy to do it knowing I will have one hell of a ride when it's over.

I gave some Germans my phone number.

In completely unrelated news, there's a pair of glass headlights on eBay Germany. Out of my price range, but I know somebody's gotta be digging for 'em.

I have roughly 4k to live on, so losing more than half my money on this car isn't worth it.

To you.
If the SVX is not the car for you, then sell it to someone here who will save it.
Some of us LOVE fixing these special cars back up to road worthy, pristine, and beyond!
I/We just did a whole car paint job on Christine, a 170k 93.
She is on her second engine, third transmission, third paint job!
If She lost an engine or transmission we would not hesitate to replace/repair anything that goes wrong.
I understand that as a 19year old student, on your own and in a strange land
(New York)it can get overwhelming.
Let us know how much you need for Her.

The metal is painted (which will protect it from rust, as well as the clearcoat). Silicone will stop moisture from getting to the metal, which will also help against rust. I don't think I have ever seen evidence of silicone causing rust. I siliconed mine in, and it did the trick. Clean to this day...
True. But if you have a leak coming from elsewhere, now you've just created an area where the moisture can sit undisturbed and allowed to do it's thing on your panel.
