Camber question
My tires have excessive wear on the inside of them. Im positive it was because of a bad alignment job.
This is not my car, but my tires look just like that. They're loud too because of it. I was wondering, since I just need these to last me until the end of the summer, could I have an alignment shop camber them outwardly ever-so-slightly so that the inner edge theoretically wouldn't be touching the pavement? Would this cause any problems? I know it will damage the tires' outer edge, but I don't care since I don't plan on using them much longer. Just wanted to ask someone who knows more than me (and the shops that will truthfully lie to get a few bucks). I don't feel like getting a blow out, and I need to drive halfway across pennsylvania twice before the end of the month. Thanks for the input

Re: Camber question
That would not be a good idea. It's time for new tires, especially if you plan on doing a lot of driving.

Chuck, is that really bad camber, or is that car messed up? There's no way they could have gotten the camber so positive through normal means. Damn.

Re: Camber question
Just run lots of air in them.
That will keep the edges from touching as well.

Re: Camber question
From my experience using tire-destroying camber on my RX-8 for autocrossing, I can tell you that toe does way more to shred tires than camber does.
Also, please don't try to use weird alignment specs to offset the wear on your tires. If you really could get that much positive camber out of the car, it would have a terrible effect on your ability to steer and brake. If your tires look like that, you need new tires and an alignment.

Re: Camber question
Maybe it's something to do with how I drive, or the curvy roads I frequent, but that looks very much like my typical wear pattern dating back to the bias-ply days, even with routine alignments and rotation and slightly higher-than-spec air pressure. As suggested above, just confirm proper alignment and buy new tires.

Re: Camber question
Good to hear. I think I'm gonna pick up a used set that'll last me a few months. Thanks guys :]
Edit: Actually, if anyone has a decent set of stock size tires they'd be willing to sell and ship me, send me a PM.

Re: Camber question
Having a set of used tires shipped only to use them for a few months before you have to replace them again sounds only marginally cheaper than just buying a new set on Tire Rack. The Ecsta AST is $76. I have a set on my RX8 and, while certainly not fantastic, they're positively 'acceptable.'

Re: Camber question
Right, but I plan on using these rims for winter and my new ones for the summer months. I don't want to buy nice winter tires and use them for the rest of the summer either...

Re: Camber question
There's one problem. I don't have them yet. I plan on getting a nice set of gold sti bbs's. If I don't like the gold (which I'm sure I will) I'll powdercoat them gunmetal black. I'll take whatever color I can find. Anything will be better than the current ones I have.
