Saw Hot Tuna last night (don't bother reading if you don't know who they are)

Might have been the 8th or 9th time I saw them over the past 20 years but this tour they are amazingly tight and electric (and modernized a bit) with a full band (G.E. Smith is the 2nd guitar, Scooter on the drums). If your a fan of Jorma and Jack then it is definately a don't miss for 2 guys pushing social security. I have only a few concerts in well over 500 that I'd say were better. Between their opener (Steve Earl) and them you get close to 4 hours of music.

Just remember your ear plugs. They are louder then ever with their hearing loss. This time though they are that much clearer and tighter! Sad thing was the 2k venue didn't even sell out for 2 of the best guitarist's ever and IMO the best electrci bassist of his generation.

I've never seen them live but have some of their vinyl. It's great to hear old rockers doing well.
I saw John Hiatt and Levon Helm last week and both had amazing tight bands with them, great shows. Oh and I saw Santana too (40,000 plus fans), great as always and the first time I've seen him live since 1976.

Miracle Max: they're so perky, I love that.

Re: Saw Hot Tuna last night (don't bother reading if you don't know who they are)

I saw them three years ago up in Alaska. I'd heard the name before, but didn't really know what I was going to hear that night (Jefferson Whoplane Whatship?). It was just Jorma, Jack, and some other dude who played a mandolin and about a million other instruments. The three of them put on an amazing show! I'd be curious to hear a more electric set, because those guys are really talented.

Steve Earl is another story entirely. I've seen him twice back in Colorado and rank him among the greatest storytellers I've ever seen. This songs and interludes blended together for the entire set, and at the end it's like you've just heard an amazing novel put to music. He and Ramblin' Jack Elliot have a unique ability to turn a crowded venue into a cozy living room where you can just curl up and listen while they speak and sing directly to you. Magic.
