I can honestly provide a good before and after comparison. My scanner is throwing a fit at the moment so I will scan the slips ASAP, but here are my findings.

I went to the track on Saturday to maintain points and see about slipping into the top 4 for the divisional Summit ET Race of Champions. The air was horrible. The physical track altitude is only 2700 feet, but with temperature, barometric pressure and such, the corrected air altitude was 5400 feet for my first run. Earlier this year on stock 3.54 gears I was able to break into the high 15s several times, but only when the corrected altitude was near or under actual and the air temperatures were in the 40s. Now the air was 90 degrees. Going through a history of my previous time slips I found other runs made in June with similar atmospheric conditions at 16.32 @ 86mph. My first run on the 4.44 gears was a nice 15.82 @ 87.99mph. This was exactly a half second quicker. I could tell the ECU was also still adjusting to the fact that all is previous driving adaptations were erased cause the battery was out of the car for several days while the work was performed. On the same slips, the 60 foot times were quicker by 2 tenths going from 2.4 seconds to 2.2 seconds. When the first round of eliminations came about, the car sped up more to a 15.71 @ 88mph. It was a good thing my competitor red-lit cause my dial was a 15.78 meaning it was terribly faster than expected and I would have lost. Trying not to be surprised again, I dialed down to an expected (guessed) 15.66. I was rudely awoke to the fact that 9 years of racing and launching this car will all have to be re-learned now as it pulled an un-expected 15.61 @ just shy of 89 mph. The air was getting a bid better with the corrected altitude coming down to 5000 feet and the sun off the track. This time my break out sends me home. With no complete days of racing under my belt with the new feel of the car, knowing what it was going to do as conditions changed was a mystery. More seat time will be required to better understand the baseline of the car for competition reasons. Also during time trials I I found out real quick that the way I have launched the car for the past 9 years will NOT work any longer. I previously power brake launched reaching full 2800 rpm flash stall of the converter. Now, once the rpms cross 2000 rpms, the car pushes past the brakes abilities to hold the car.

Now before some of you less experienced persons say "15.6 is rather slow" please remember that the corrected altitude robs horsepower on all cars (less on foreced induction) and that runs at sea-level would be MUCH faster. I have experience racing at three sea-level tracks (Mission, Canada - Pacific, Seattle - and Woodburn, Oregon) and that every time I ran at such tracks I consitently picked up 6-7 tenths in the quarter mile. I am not sure of the physics hold completly true with the gear swap, but if so or even close, my hot air run at my home track would have been a 14.9 at sea-level.

Conclusion:
The 4.44 gear swap was not too difficult to complete. Transmission availability is far greater than SVX transmissions. I was fortunate enough to get a tranny with a mere 72k miles on it. The lauch is VERY VERY impressive. If you have driven around in your 3.54 gears SVX for any length of time, I am not kidding when I say not to let it catch you off gaurd, or your neck might become sore and stiff later in the evening. Dont get me wrong, dont expect to turn the car into a Corvette, but the after effects are quite impressive. I am confident that if I did not have super sticky competition tires on the car, 4-wheel traction issues and wheel scratching would be heard on launch. The modification is easliy worth greater than a half second in the quarter mile (closer to 6 tenths). To visualise this in your head, if you were to take a 3.54 SVX and a 4.44 SVX and did a side by side drag run down the track, here is how it would look:
At the lauch, the altered gears SVX would pull a whole half car length on the OEM SVX in the first 2 seconds. By the 1/8 mile mark, the altered SVX would be approximately 3-4 car lengths ahead of the factory geared SVX. By the end of the race, the difference would spread to 6-8 car lengths. I would not reccomend this mod for cars that do lots of daily driving at 70+ mph speeds. BUT, if most of your driving is in town, your overall fuel economy for in town driving will increase.
