Stainless line install
So search failed me. How-to documents failed me. Figured I'd post up the question - whats the best way to drain the brake system for the install of the SS lines?
I know I want to use a sucker of some sort to get the fluid outta the master cylinder, so any gunk in there doesn't get in the lines and cause pre-mature failure... but I don't even know where the "bleed plug", if there is such a thing, is on them. Short of pulling off the old lines, letting it spew, and pumping the pedal, I don't really know what to do. I haven't begun it yet, I'd like to get a step by step before I start tearing things apart - it's just how I operate. She's my DD, I can't have her down for too long. Hopefully, if I get enough responses, I'd like to get it done tomorrow before work @ 2pm. Thanks for all the information guys!

i just did mine last month.
jack wheel off ground, i took off the wheel, unbolt old line brackets, unscewed top end of the old line, unclip top of old line, unbolt bottom bolt of old line, screw top of new lines in, bolt bottom of new lines in(with 2 new copper crush washers, one on each side of the new line end), clip new top in, bolt up new line bracket, loosen bleeder valve and connect tubing leading into fluid disposal pan, open cap of fluid resivor(engine compartment), have Wife, Gf, relative, or friend pump brakes while you keep fluid level above minimum, when you got clean juice coming out tighten bleeder valve. put wheel back on, repeat on next wheel. it took me like 1.5 hours, it was easy. i suppose you could pump brakes your self but i'm too impatient for that. |

why bother Just do it man... problem I had was the metal of my soft lines fused with the metal of my hard lines.. I ended up cutting all four brakelines off.

This is what I'm worried about for when I do mine, that the hard lines have rusted solid into the rubber flex lines. Ah well, nothing that a little heat and a lot of liquid wrench can't solve

Haha. Well we'll see - I'm 2 days into the job and I've only gotten 2 wheels done . Yay New England winters, everything is rusted solid.
Hoping to do both the back ones tomorrow before work, thinking they might take less time. Looks like the SS lines will have hold off though, because Sunday the rain rolls in...

in Alaska everything rusts, we would always use this stuff to break stuff free....http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/s...enetrating_oil
if that doesn't work literally nothing will. it's kinda spendy but a 14 oz can lasted over 10 years!!!! |
