Got the new temp sensor..still no start

Installed the new temp sensor, it works as far as I can tell. When I unplug the sensor with the ignition on, the fans turn on. This tells me the wiring to the ecu is good. Why will she not fire? Fuel pressure is good, timing belt looked good, cam marks lined up. ??????

Re: Got the new temp sensor..still no start

Did you reset the ECU by pulling the negative battery terminal wire for at least 1/2 hour and then trying to start the car?

Do you get any codes when you run the diagnostic? What are the other symptoms, does it crank or does it click? Also do you know if it has a ECUtune Stage 1 chip in the ECU?

Re: Got the new temp sensor..still no start

I did disconnect the battery for an hour. I only ran the self diagnostic, engine light gave a code 21 ( temp sensor). The engine cranks over just fine, sometimes it tries to fire on a cylinder or two, but never enough to actually start. Winter is almost here; I need her running before the snow hits, any suggestions? I believe this is the stock ECU.

Now that you have cleared the codes by disconnecting the battery, please check for any new codes.
If no new codes are shown, take the O2 sensors out and let them dangle.
Try to start it again after some time has passed.

Still showing 21 after the new sensor install... is there another way to clear the codes?

Re: Got the new temp sensor..still no start

If you have verified spark AND fuel, then you have either an air metering problem, or a timing problem...or possibly even something weird like a clogged catalytic converter.

You did check all three timing points correct? The crank was TDC and you verified the cam NOTCHES matched the notches on the back timing cover? I cant remember if I asked before or not on another thread.

Re: Got the new temp sensor..still no start

Took the cam covers off and crank pully. According to the diagram SoCalLS-L sent me, thanx for that. All marks were aligned properly, so now I will try some of the other suggestions here. I will take the 02 sensors out and let them "dangle" for a while.............. Snowed 6 inches in the past few days, looking forward to me and my SVX playing the snow!

Re: Got the new temp sensor..still no start

My girlfriend said she put regular unleaded in the tank. What would this cause for problems?

Might run badly but i cannot imagine that would prevent it from even starting

Re: Got the new temp sensor..still no start

Wishful thinking on my part. I have worked on all my own vehicles since I had my first car, right now I am stumped!
I have checked everything I think could be wrong......or have I?

Was the car starting and running OK prior to installing a new temperature sensor? If not, what is the prior history? It is time to back track and apply logic.
