that WAS what I meant... but today I got a call from my father... his father fell today and is in really rough shape. among other things he broke his hip, and he is in his 90s...
so for now I have to plan on going up there next weekend. it is like a 60% chance i'll be going up. so don't plan around me. if you are still working on it and I am not going, I'll be over your way. sorry to let you down..

Flywheel is on, clutch is on, tranny is... not on. I was trying to mount the trans today, but it is a no-go. My jack stands hold the car only 20 inches off the ground and the combined height of the trans on the jack is 31 inches. I have to slide the trans under the car, then put the trans jack under the car and try to wrestle the trans onto the jack at that point. Impossible by yourself needless to say. So, I will wait until Seraph gets here. Pedals are out and so is the brake booster. Once Tom's kit gets here tuesday I can put the pedals in and attach the linkage.
So, once that second set of hands gets here it will be the home stretch. Put the trans on, attach the clutch line, bleed the clutch, bleed the brakes, wire for the reverse lights, and I think that should do it....

Oh and I gaffed the rear end.... I need to swap the axles around from left to right... DOH!!!

Question about the wires I need to use for the back up lights.
This is the harness as it lays on the tranny. These are the wires that run off back by the tail of the trans These are the wires that run near the bottom in the middle of the trans These are the wires that are up at the top near the bell housing

the white connector holds the two wires for the reverse lights... The black connector has no function in the swap

Bobby, Do you have an engine lift/hoist?
If so, I use it to install 4EAT's on my own. - Slide the trans into place under the car - Fully extend the hoist to the area behind the throttle body and drop a long chain down to the trans. - Use the hoist to lift the heavy end of the trans and either use muscle or a small floor jack to lift the tail - Slide the trans jack under and get back to work slacker

The pass side axle has a longer stub on the differential side. I simply put the driver side axle in the pass side of the diff.

I must be missing somthing the R 180 rear axles are the same left and right, the SVX axles are different.

I have STi axles that I am using..... pretty sure that one had a shorter stub... Now I am going to check before I take the rear end out. I only started wondering because once the axle on the pass side popped in there was no thread to catch the axle nut on. Also the driver side is nigh unto impossible to get to pop into place.

Following your comments about swaping I phoned a rally guy and asked him he says they are the same. It might turn out that 1 of your axles is not a STI one.

Tranny is in, slave cylinder is on, starter is.... not on. Do I have to drill for the lower mounting bolt?

They all definitely are as I personally pulled them off of a 2007 STi.. That issue has been resolved though and my rear end is set...
