5sp back-up light wiring
Is the back-up switch integrated in with the NSS on the auto? If so, which pins/wires is it?

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
Yes, post number 5 there looks like what I did. I was going to try and answer your question, but I realized that without remembering the wiring colors or which pins they are, it wouldn't be very helpful.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
I was searching here for quite a while with no luck. Then as soon as I post the question I find exactly what I need.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
Yea it took me forever to find it too. So I was going to make a nice how-to with pictures and everything but I forgot to take the pictures while I was doing it...
If you take some pictures, I'll write up a how-to for it.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
I'll do that. Hopefully over the next week or so I'll have it done.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
Cool, if you need any help let me know, it's mostly still fresh in my mind, since I just did mine in January.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
This is the smaller transmission harness that goes to the Neutral Safety Switch (where the automatic's shift linkage hooks to). With the lock facing up, the bottom left two are the back-up lights, connected at the other end to the 5mt's back-up light switch. The bottom right two are the neutral safety switch, connected to the clutch 'down' position switch.
After I got everything hooked up, just wrapped thoroughly with electrical tape. I'll come up with something more permanent soon. My short shifter. I just cut the bracket off and welded it on farther up the rod. Plug that was connected to the automatic shifter. With lock up the right two must be jumped in order to remove the key. I hope this all makes sense and can be useful.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
Well done. My more permanent solution for the Neutral/reverse wires was to cut the corresponding plug off of the A/T harness, solder the Neutral and reverse light switch wires to it, then plug it in. Pretty clean and very reliable. I also stuffed the bunch of wires through hole back into the car, and stuck them up behind the heater core.

I put my reverse lights on a toggle and intend to wire a back-up camera into it.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
You could have the lights on the stock back-up switch on the manual tranny and also have that switch power on a camera. Just to eliminate having to flip a switch every time you reverse. Then have toggle switch to over-ride and turn on just the camera manually if you want.

Re: 5sp back-up light wiring
Yeah, I would like to have done that, but the switch is right next to the shifter, so no biggy.
