How can you tell if the power steering pump is going/bad?
The 1995 SVX LSi has sheered two alternator belts now...
The power steering pump squeels (when you turn sometimes).. And occasionally is hard to turn... Would flushing the power steering fiuld be a good place to start? If so, how do you flush the power steering fluild? I don't want to spend ~$400 on a new power steering pump from Subaruparts.com... Additionally what else might be causing the Alt belt to be sheered to peices??? Thanks.

Re: How can you tell if the power steering pump is going/bad?
Re-tension your belt after a few days of being installed since it will stretch out. Squealing is usually a sign of a loose belt... which will cause the power assist to go out for a moment. Spin all your pullys when the belt is off to check bearings. You are using ATF as your power steering fluid right?

Also with the front end of the car jacked up with jack stands safely in place, turn the wheels left to right, slowly by hand to see if it moves smoothly.
