This topic has been covered a lot. Please use the search button at the top of the page. Put "manual button" into the box and you'll find a wealth of response

No, the manual light is not supposed to be on all the time. It's only supposed to be on when the manual button is depressed.

You don't have a manual button? Is your car automatic? It's the smaller button on the auto shifter. Click in for manual mode, click out for normal auto shifting.

If you have the "owners manual" it explains it pretty well in there.

It's been five weeks! It's time to ask again.

Per Seraph's post, November 2003:

Here's why everyone gets frustrated:

More threads about the same thing means more dispersal of useful information, and more digging to have to be done, when a good share of those threads are either useless or don't have the information you're looking for. As well, they eat up the database, which is certainly more of a problem at NASIOC, where you can't search for words deemed "too common", such as "STi" and "wheels", God forbid you'd ever try to find a set.

Want proof that it can be problematic? Head on over to NASIOC and try to sort out what is considered to be the best CAI for a 2.5L N/A.

The "manual" button on the gear shift is for more RWD in 2nd and 3rd gears on the AWD cars. It should have been called the "Traction" button. That manual thing is really misleading.

Take care of that SVX,

John

Thats good that there is a pic floating around of the actual use as people get confused and guess as to its function and totally confuse what the truth of the matter really is.

Take care of that SVX,

John, the manual button has no difference on the AWD system. All it does is holding in a high gear as to reduce wheel spin from a stand-still in bad weather. Starting off in second gear will keep you from spinning the wheels and sliding all over the place. It does nothing to the affect of changing the torque transfer to the rear wheels

Tom

I wouldn't say it keeps me from spinning the wheels or sliding, but that's dependant on how far you push the fun pedal. I usually put the car in second in manual mode on the track.
