Re: 60-0 distance?
Motorweek is the nation's longest running and most respected automotive shows, with 31 seasons under their belt.
You don't earn a reputation like that by being innacurate or producing erroneous reviews. .

Here's a quick refresher on the kiss of death you call Motorweek. Dodge Omni Renault Alliance Mercury Capri (the australian one) Honda Del Sol Stopping an SVX in 98 feet just isn't right. Your in sport bike numbers there. 118 would still be a great number with 20 year later technology.

Re: 60-0 distance?
I believe the 98 foot stopping distance, provided an anchor was involved.
Coming from a 10 year older 928 to the SVX, I nearly rear-ended a few cars because i wasnt initiallyadjusted to the longer stopping distance of the SVX.

Re: 60-0 distance?
Yes, because the SVX can totally go from 0-60 in 98 feet.
Also, an interesting article I found: http://www.motortrend.com/features/m...t/viewall.html

Re: 60-0 distance?
The SVX can stop pretty damn quick, I have tossed crap off the rear deck onto the front floor on a hard brake...
98ft sounds about right to me, if your only doing 1 hard 60-0 brake. My issue with the brakes in the SVX is the fade.. I have drilled & slotted rotors and after a few hard brakes they just don't do the job well anymore. I mean it, after like 3 120mph-60mph hard brakes they feel like there is no brakes. I bet my rotors are prolly glowing.. |

Re: 60-0 distance?
Listen, Gil and TampaRacing were never meant to be reliable sources in and of themselves, but they're as believeable as any general poster on any general forum, having quoted numbers from another source <holds mirror for you all>.
The bottom line is, first and foremost, if you believe that an SVX can decelerate better than the best cars today and can violate rational physics by shredding velocity at over 1.2g, then maybe it can stop from 60mph in 98 feet. But no, there's no chance in hell.

Re: 60-0 distance?
Am I the one of the few people here, who see the motorweek video and notice that the fact that the 60 to 0 is on tape? Kinda, you know, proof? Slams on the brakes at 0, stops around 100. I fail to see how this can be misconstrued.
If your svx feels like crap when on the reigns, then try a different brand of pads. Have a seat in mine when I decelerate. The proof is in the puddin. |

Re: 60-0 distance?
only one way to solve this...we all need to do brake tests
it's kinda hard to get an accurate reading for the distance but I'll have an accelerometer in car to see if i can reach 1.2G Man if I can prove that 98ft, i'll have a great time bragging MY CAR OUTBRAKES A FREAKING 458!!!!

Re: 60-0 distance?
My experience with the SVX's brakes is pretty good. I'm impressed with the stopping power, especially considering its weight. I have been autocrossing and running track events (Summit Point and Virginia International Raceway) for about 15 years. Had a '94 Laguna Blue, my son had a '96 Polo Green, and I now have a '92 Pearly and a '97 Red - the Pearly is my track car. Is it fast? not particularly. Does it handle well? With the coil-overs and race rubber it does. Does it brake well? I have never run a 60-0 test, but I am impressed with the braking. I remember when I first started tracking the car at Summit (this was the main course, two miles and 10 turns), my instructor at the time (a seasoned driver that raced road courses with SCCA) asked to drive the car to "show me the finer points of turn-in and the proper apex's, etc". Following a few warm-up laps, we went into Turn 1 at Summit at about 120 MPH where brakes are really important since not many cars will go through this turn faster than about 50 MPH. When he got on the brakes hard, his immediate comment was, "Damn, this thing has brakes!" At the time I was running stock rotors and AXXIS semi-metalic pads. I NEVER had brake fade at the track or in autocross except one time when a friend talked me into running some cheaper NAPA pads (never again!). Since one can no longer acquire AXXIS pads (they were bought out?), I am now running EBC Red Stuff pads, and yes, stainless steel lines. The car BRAKES. I have heard and read for many years from folks on this site about how bad the brakes are on the SVX. I have never understood it. And this is with using up (metal to metal) a set of new pads on the front one weekend at Summit (Shenandoah course - two mile 17 turns) - had to change the pads before I could go home!
As for 60-0 in 98 feet, I too find it a bit hard to believe, but as one member indicated, it was on the tape. I don't think we have bragging rights for less than a 100 feet, but damn, the car does brake well IMHO. Harry

Road and Track have it at 60-0 at 134 feet. And 229 feet from 80. they spent a lot of time with the SVX... long term tests etc. Very much in line with the cars of the day. |

Re: 60-0 distance?
Having known John Davis of Motorweek from the days I worked with MPT. I am going to try to contact him and see what he thinks of all this. Might just give him the link to this discussion and let him run with it.
He is a great guy with a lot of automotive experience and if he can remember back 20 years to this test, it could be interesting. At least I could probably find out exactly what technology they used to measure this stopping distance. If it took the SVX 125 feet to go from 60-0, why would he not have reported it accurately as such? On the other hand, he reported the 0-60 acceleration as 8.0 seconds. Could be a technical glitch somewhere. .
