Pick your car in the air and check the drag of each wheel. With our 4 wheel disc brakes, exposed to the elements, the calliper slider pins can get corroded, causing the callipers and pads to drag on the rotors. Bring the tire pressures up to 35psi front and 31psi rear, reducing rolling friction. Have someone check your car with a Subaru Select Moniter, and set your T.P.S. to .50volts. Remove and clean your O2 sensors. Change your plugs and air filter if necessary. Wash and wax your car, empty the trunk.

Here is what I figured out on my trip back from California. I was a little bored.
85MPH Cruise Control = 12.6Gallons = 368Miles = 29MPG 80MPH Cruise Control = 13 Gallons = 379Miles = 29MPG 70MPH Cruise Control = 12.6Gallons = 412Miles = 33MPG (best yet for me) No AC on, no fan, no lights, all windows closed and bald tires. I just had to do it once to see the best I could do. (no way to live) Around town I average 20-25MPG or 300Miles to a tank if I drive in a relaxed way. I found some specs that quote 17MPG in the city and 25MPG highway from the Factory. I get a 100miles in the 1st 1/4 of the tank and then it goes to pot. Funny Fuel gauge.

I logged 31+ MPG on a 66-mile run through Atlanta yesterday. (Topped-off on both sides of town since lots of stations had no juice.) 80+ MPH with cruise on as much as traffic allowed, with a couple or three passing sprints around 90. In ATL, 80+ is pretty much just going with the flow.
I've been figuring my mileage carefully for the past month or so and am averaging above 23 MPG in mixed driving. My worst return during that time has been 19 & change. For its size, comfort and capability, I think the SVX gets excellent fuel mileage. I don't recall that my old GL (with its 90 hp 1.8L and 5MT) or Legacys ever did much better. dcb |

you should check your cam timing sometime. my car was getting the same mileage as yours and my driver side cams where retarded a tooth and the passenger side was advanced a tooth. check the codes in your computer and make sure everything is cool in that department too. |

Mine gets 18 in the City and 28 on the highway, though I have to admit to having a slightly heavy foot.....cannot seem to help myself sometimes.

Nobody has really talked about using regular unleaded because
it is cheaper, as opposed to the premium that is recommended. Any thoughts on this? Will my car figure out the difference?! Funny how much mileage I can squeeze out of my Trailblazer when I have to. Both vehicles have brilliant transmissions when it comes to saving money. Driver must have brilliant right foot of course! |

Since I purchased mine, I have alternated between 93/87, doing so when the tank is half full, which in my case is the E line. Though it would make sense that the ECU would retard the timing if a lower octane were used, hence lowering your HP rating. HOWEVER, what I find most intriguing about the recent price INCREASES is this. While the base price has risen, the relative price for Super Unleaded has not. I still pay the same $.20 premium over Regular, when the price was $1.60/gallon instead of the current $2.99/gallon, this morning.
Hey, has anyone figured out why the price of oil and gas has gone up anyway? Don't we have the same amount of oil in the ground when the price was $40 a barrel? A hurricane or limitations on the ability pump the oil should have no bearing on the price per barrel since ability has nothing to do with what is actually left in the ground. |

it would be alot easier if i didn't have to replace the pos's every 10 months at 100 bucks a pop. i'll just assume for now my cam timing being off killed them but if it happens again then there definitely just junk. |
