tire size
Hey All,
Have a nice set of 225/60/R16's offered to me, anyone try to fit these? I have the stock 225/50/16's on the 92 SVX right now. The 60 series tire looks like it would be WAY tall?? Thanks, Marte |

225/60's will rub the plastic fenderliner in the rear on hard turns.

i disagree,respectfully
i fit 255/50wr16s on my svx no problem. the 225/60vr16 will help eliminate the understeer with 2100lbs on the nose, the same as an outback. i've seen 245/55wr16 toyo proxes t1r fit perfectly.

im still confused as to why you are convinced a taller sidewall alone will help eliminate understeer?? If anything it would increase as tire roll will increase.

Gotta say I agree completely with Tom on this one! Here is a link to a tire size calculator. http://www.wickedbodies.net/Tire-Size-Calculator.htm. You can plug in different sizes at the top to compare diameters, tread width, and speedometer difference. They wont help you too much on fender clearances, but you can get a good idea what might fit when changing rim and/or tire sizes.

thanks for the replies. It looks tight at the back, possibly a problem if there are passengers in the back. I think I'll mount one and have a closer look.

tire roll
it's not the size, but the make that increase tire roll. (i.e. NASCAR & F1 on 15's) (i've also found that tires lower than a 195/50, 215/45, 235/40, 265/35) sidewall dont have enough roll for optimum handling.) a 245/50zr17 pirelli pzero would have less roll than a 225/50VR16 all season tire. granted, a 225/60vr16 isnt an ideal size, but get them in a bridgestone RE750 summer tire and you'll find a comfortably stiff sidewall. 225/60 was also the profile on mustang GTs and BMW 5 serires for alot of years. only in the SVX's case does the weight dictate a higher load capacity. hypothetically, if you got all that weight on one front tire late braking in a corner the 225/50-16 or 225/40-18 are as good as nothing.

tire equation
width times % profile, times 2, divided by 25.4, plus wheel diameter. tire width in inches: width divided by 25.4. ex. (225x60%x2)/25.4+16. if you're using the same wheel, then just width times profile and then divide by another profile will give you same height with different width. 60% or .60 is the same.
